Happy to see Sunderland back, not sure they will have staying power though. More worried about Leeds or Burnley being competitive, especially if we have another summer of not addressing issues.

It will largely hinge of transfers over the summer.

As we all know, we need ro replace about half our first team squad. Our higher management would clearly prefer to buy in and trouser the commission fees rather than bring academy players through - that much is clear.

Spurs are in a not too dissimilar predicament as us. OK, they have European football next season, but, with that, they really need 2 first-team quality sides to progress, both domestically and in Europe. Will Levi/y pay and are there even enough players of the required quality around (who want to play for a club who's trophy cabinet was displaying (Aldi) cheese a couple of weeks ago) ?

Manchester United? Well, no European football (ha ha) and a toxicity running right through the club. They will need to move out at least 8 of their big names, but doubt if they'll find takers for half of those they need to shoo out the door; who can match the deals they're on?

I suspect they'll either have to swallow big losses on those they can move on and buy out the contracts of those that they can't. Both will fuck up their transfer budget (not to mention the plans for their new stadium). Additionally, they're not now as big a draw for players as they were under Busby & Ferguson.

They may even need to let the manager go, and write this season (and the next 3) off, as a rebuild project, which will have much of the media spitting feathers.

All the other teams who finished in the bottom half, plus the promoted 3 clubs will be fishing in a small and shallow talent pool this summer. This would normally send prices through the roof, but, to counter that, there's not that much cash sloshing around the PL clubs to let that happen.

So. Lots of words to say next term will be difficult to call.
