However, he did 3 tours of Belfast during "The Troubles", so gets a free pass from me

There's nothing wrong with real soldiers it's the posters on here who are pretend soldiers who would probbaly wet themselves under fire. Ok I'm no soldier but in the early 80s I did enough fighting mostly away games to know I stood my ground, Most on here woulld be on their toes .
