Jim Lovell dies

He held the unique distinction of going to the Moon twice without actually landing on it. He was on Apollo 8 and the ill fated Apollo 13.

Agreed, sitting on top of the Saturn V if it went wrong it would go up like a small atomic bomb.

These early astronauts were absolute fucking GEEZERS. Sad no doubt, but he lived a lot longer than he ought to have given the risks they took back then and definitely longer than he would have expected himself.

He went to the moon,
But came back too soon,
All due to a technical muddle.

in Cann Hall Infants School, Leytonstone,  we had to go to assembly to pray for the Apollo 13 Astronauts
