Another dreadful VAR intervention to disallow Fulham goal at Chelsea 

Villa looking a bit pony all of a sudden. Suspect it wont last for long as Emery is a decent manager but looks to me like they are suffering with the effects of PSR which has restricted their transfer ambitions.  The Prem Lge demands you freshen up a squad every season really. Yes Liverpool didnt do much last season but because every club does business to improve, a club almost has to get players in or you emd up going backwards.  Lets see what happens but Palace fully deserve their win tonight. That Glasner seems to be a very good manager. If Potter did go, would love him at West Ham. Impossible I realise because Sullivan only hires out of work managers. The VAR Ref in the Chelsea vs Fulham game has ben relieved of his future duties.  Admission that intervening in the on field decision was a mistake. Just glad it wasnt us. 

Watching Sunday Supplement on Sky this morning and they made the point I’ve often made
When you watch internationals, Champions league or other European leagues you get the occasional VAR controversy but generally hardly notice it 
In England it’s every week and almost every game where there is some sort of shitshow as per yesterday 
Why?

In the  Fulham game I don’t blame var I blame the ref for not standing by his original viewing and letting the goal stand. There were more than one or two over robust challenges  in the game prior to that King disallowed goal but because those challenges did not precede goals Stockley Park did not bring anything to the ref’s attention. 

As much as I think that the challenge was not a  foul I think there is a double standard at work. A foul is a foul whether it leads to a goal or not. Clearly refs are encouraged to let the game flow and thus are prepared to let suspect challenges be given the benefit of the doubt and we see this every game. The irony is that the flow of the game is then broken down by the protracted var review.

Week in week out VAR is the main talking point, those 2 decisions at Chelsea were mind boggling, the one at OT, not so much! But can see why the conspiracy theories abound as its almost always so called "big 6" clubs benefiting when playing other PL clubs, unless its 2 "big 6" playing and then we don't hear the end of it from the club who feel victimised 

Enjoyed the Spurs result, that's put those cunts back in their box

Sensible, but that will never generate the amount of controversy and talking points the media demand.

 

If the media want to prove the value of VAR, there's a very simple test:

Keep using it for the first 19 game rounds of the league programme, then completely discontinue it's use for the 2nd half of the season.

At season's end debate away the merits to your heart's content.

Simple solution for the betterment of Football (for those that love the game). Fuck it right off altgoether and just keep goal-line and semi automatic Offside technology.

Done, dusted stop pissing around with it for the sake of lazy TV/Corporate Execs who love the CONTENT. Americanised load of old bollocks for an overseas audience who love the drama more than the game.

I've got this nagging, misty feeling that they're trying, death by a thousands cuts style, to make the game more palatable for the great (financially untapped) North American market.

They know (enough) fans will support/follow their team whatever so can rely on that base income, well, forever, really, and so they can freely tweak the rules and technology towards what they want without a financially significant rebellion taking place.

Without wanting to sound like Trundle, I suspected that VAR would be used subjectively to benefit the big six. Of course those clubs will always be able to point at the occasional decision that goes against them and they get a lot of support from the media from this.

Maybe instead of a breakaway European Super League, we should have a breakaway also rans league, where real fans can enjoy the game again.

Was foolish enough to think VAR reviews might remove some of the bias by just dealing with the clear & obvious 
Seems it can be used to make subjective decisions like ‘sustained holding’ or pushes in the back not being ‘impactful’
Would happily see it binned and take the occasional human error
Keep goal line technology and adapt offsides technology to require a gap between the forward and the last defender. Not toenails offside like Todibo for our 2nd goal v Chelsea
