Front-runner named as West Ham set sights on Gabriel deal

West Ham are in the running with Juventus to sign Lecce star Tiago Gabriel to strengthen their rearguard.

With only Wolves conceding more goals than the Hammers after 14 games, Nuno Espirito Santo‘s top priority in January will be to sign defensive reinforcements.

Sources told Football Insider that Crystal Palace are keeping tabs on Max Kilman amid a growing possibility he could leave West Ham in January.

The Irons are exploring centre-back options going into the winter window and Gabriel, 20, is one of the players on their radar.

Juventus favourites to win Tiago Gabriel but West Ham won’t go down without a fight

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the Hammers are closely monitoring the Portuguese defender.

This comes after former Man United senior scout Mick Brown exclusively told Football Insider that West Ham are working on upgrading Kilman to solidify the centre-back position.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast over the Irons’ interest in the Lecce anchor, I explained: “Tiago Gabriel is somebody that’s emerged on the radar.

“Only 20-years-old so it could be bit of a gamble by West Ham if they were to bring him in and bring him straight into the team.

“Ideally, I think West Ham would want somebody who can come in straight into the team and hit the ground running in the Premier League because that’s what they’re going to need in the second half of season if they are to get themselves out of trouble.

“Tiago Gabriel, I’m sure he’s somebody that West Ham have looked at. Brentford have also been mentioned as well, but it does seem reports in Italy are suggesting that Juventus are the current front-runner for the player.

“The Bianconeri would be hopeful that they could win the race for his signature if it does come down to it in the January window as well.

“Lecce, I’m sure if they’ve received a decent offer for the centre-back that they wouldn’t stand in his way and they would let him move on as well.

“So let’s wait and see what happens with him. But, there’s no doubt that West Ham will be in the market for defensive reinforcements in January.”

West Ham Make 6 ft 5 'Machine' Top Priority in January After Fullkrug Decision

Image

West Ham United have made no secret of their top priority going into the January transfer window.

It's been a tough season so far for the Hammers who are sitting 18th in the table and facing the prospect of a serious fight against relegation during the second half of the campaign.

A 1-1 draw against Manchester United at the weekend offered a glimmer of hope but with just 16 goals to their name this term, it's clear that Nuno Espirito Santo needs additional firepower if they're to start winning games on a consistent basis. Thankfully for supporters, that seems to be the main priority.
West Ham Step Up Promise David Pursuit

West Ham's search for a striker will see them pursue a deal to sign Union Saint-Gillloise frontman Promise David, according to Sky Sports' Rob Dorsett.

Taking to X, Dorsett said: "#whufc interested in poss deal for striker Promise David at Belgium side Union SG. 9 goals for club and country this season, he is 1 of several options. Striker no1 priority in Jan, with Fullkrug expected to leave — but Frankfurt interest in him has waned. Wolfsburg still keen."

A 6ft 5in striker and described as a 'machine', David has scored 32 goals in 60 appearances since joining the Belgian side in 2024. He is tied down under contract until 2029.

A first team regular for Union Saint-Gilloise, the 24-year-old has started regularly this season and already scored nine times across all competitions.

It's expected that a deal would cost in the region of £17million with Brighton also keen on a move.

It doesn't take a genius to work out why West Ham are in need of attacking talent. Nuno's side are bereft of qualitty in the final third and simply can't rely on just Jarrod Bowen to keep their heads above water, despite his brilliant performances.

Niklas Fullkrug's agent has suggested that his client could leave the club in January, but, as reported by GIVEMESPORT's Andrew Dillon, Fullkrug will not be allowed to just walk out on the Hammers.

As a result, West Ham's move for David is surely going to be a priority.

Callum Wilson has done well of late but his fitness issues in recent years make him an unreliable asset in that area. In David, the Hammers would have a star who is well up for the physical battle of the Premier League while also having the quality to bag some vital goals.

“West Ham are set to sign England youth international Frankie Day from rivals Spurs,” said Ex, via West Ham Way.“The deal is currently going through the Premier League five-step process before it can be completed.“Frankie is a prolific forward who has scored many goals at his age group and whilst playing up in years above. This is considered a bit of a coup for the club with Mark Noble being very much behind the deal.”As West Ham wait for the formalities to be completed, it will be very interesting to see what the future holds for Day in east London. The Irons have been more focused on youthful recruitment these past few seasons, as evident by their recent signings of Mohamadou Kante, Mateus Fernandes and Magassa.Their academy sides have shown great promise as well, with West Ham's Under-23s completing a league and cup double in 2023 whilst finishing that campaign with 26 wins out of a possible 30 in all competitions.Day could be at the perfect place to further his development, and there's no doubt Noble will have emphasised that in talks with the teenager.
