Saw him tell a lovely story.  Apparently after Sean Connery left the Bond role Dick Van Dyke was kind of offered the role but as much as he was honoured, he said "have you heard my British accent?!"

Was an alcoholic during the making of Mary Poppins which made the dancing hard work 
Was previously in the Dick Van Dyke Show created by Carl Reiner alongside Mary Tyler Moore which I watched as a kid
