West Ham United confirms that Luis Guilherme has joined Sporting CP on a permanent basis. The 19-year-old Brazilian moves to Portugal having made 18 appearances for the Hammers since joining from Palmeiras in June 2024. The Club would like to thank Luis for his contribution and wish him every success for his future career.

Yup, it was the sort of buy Chelsea do where it matters not a jot if he's ready or if he cost a lot, they will just loan him out to Strasbourg or somewhere similar to develop him, likewise Brighton where he's identified as the perfect replacement to say Mitoma and sits in their system with no pressure for a few years or again loaned. Not chucked onto the bench of a struggling side and then thrown on and expected to do something with 10 mins to go here and there.

I think Luis basically suffered for having a high price tag, being deemed 'first team ready' and being in a position where we lacked squad depth (so was always wanted to be available).

Seems he was considered too valuable to stick in the U21s or out on loan at a lower level Club, and that if he wasn't ready to have immediate impact, he'd have to be sold since we can't afford to have 20m of talent in a 'development' stage (where if he doesn't develop that value just erodes further).

Think the plan is get out flat and then go for the Taty bloke who may add some goals for a survival bid. 3 managers haven't rated LG now so plan will be to put all the eggs in the Lazio's bloke basket and stay up and rebuild in summer.

That’s a classy goodbye from a kid who owes us nothing and has probably been pretty unhappy here. I’m sure we only saw a fraction of what he could do and he couldn’t have had a worse situation here in which to try and showcase any of his talents. We treated him piss poorly and as said it’s symptomatic of how atrociously we were and continue to be run. It’s embarrassing.

Good luck to him. I am sure he will shine or at least be better in a more stable and nurturing situation.

Yeah. It was idiotic. If you're going to bring in an expensive 18 year old right winger and already have the likes of Kudus and Bowen then there should be a plan to develop him properly, not have him picking splinters out of his arse for the next 18 months.

Whose responsibility is it anyway? Managers have such a short shelf life these days that most don't care about developing players. It's another reason why the club needs to have a proper director of football overseeing things.
