"""Everything coming out is a prequal, sequel, reboot or remake nowadays."" I guess that's probably because those things don't need to build an audience from scratch, and there's not enough cinemagoers these days for producers to risk spending a big budget on something new which could well be a financial disaster. With sequels and the like it's a lot easier to pre-sell distribution rights and have a lot of the budget covered before they even start filming."

"I guess it's not for everyone Manip and won't have enough skinny naked dead people bulldozed into holes, but personally I thought it was a masterpiece. It's strange that the second time I saw it was with my brother and I realised (for the first time) that it appears that there's not a lot going on and some people (including my brother) wouldn't 'get' it and think it's shit. I was too busy trying to peep over the walls and through open doors to find it boring, just quietly horrifying. My brother came out and to his credit said that he thought it was brilliant."

"Lee Trundle - You are so right. I miss my old mate who ran a video shop, who knew every customers tastes and I never had a bad film from him. Only thing he didn't advise on was comedy. I think half the problem is there isn't original writing anymore and the days of many films being adapted from books seems long gone. Many of my favourites come from adaptations from the likes of Alistair Maclean, Frederick Forsyth, John Le Carre, John Grisham and Ian Fleming of course."

"How has this fallen from the first page? I've been a busy boy with my film watching lately and saw (again) the fantastic 'The Zone of Interest' at the cinema (again!), The Holdovers and American Fiction. All of those are well worth watching if you value craft, screenwriting and an ability for you to to look at things from a completely different perspective than your own. After that it's just slim pickings as there's no need for Hollywood to release anything decent because those films are good shots for making the Oscars. Anything else great now will be forgotten until the next Oscars in a year's time which is pointless to the cunts who have to look at their phones 3 times during a film."

"Manip 12:13 Thu Jan 18 I've seen The Zone Of Interest and didn't find it a particularly tough film to watch. However, like all great art it stayed with me and became more haunting as the days went by. I can't wait to see it again."

Really enjoyed The Holdovers & Poor Things recently Expect Paul Giamatti & Emma Stone will pick up the Best Actor/Actress Oscars with Giamatti beating Cillian Murphy in Oppenheimer I see there has been a lot of bleating that the Director & star of Barbie havent been nominated ... ITS A PATRIACHAL CONSPIRACY as it was the leading box office film of the year Understand Avatar was the top box office film of 2022 & dont think James Cameron got a Best director nomination

Watch One Life with Anthony Hopkins last night. Sir Nicholas Winston certainly deserved his knighthood. The Zone of Interest which is coming out in February is going to be a tough watch.

Saltburn is one of the better movies made recently for sure. Sort of Brideshead Revisited meets The Talented Mr Ripley. Seems to be creating a lot of hype atm.

"Even though it's been recommended on here by a few in touch with your feminine side (i.e. under the thumb from your missus), I reckon I'll be giving Saltburn a miss. This review say it's a bumfest. Yours. https://twitter.com/AvonandsomerRob/status/1746633217203921305"
