Aguerd New number for Nayef

Post stubbo-admin »

Why bother switching number if you're off? No 5...looks like he's staying then.

Not convinced by his defending but he's good on the ball, decent recovery pace, and means we've got 3 CBs as likely first choice who are very comfortable with the ball at their feet.

If he was a new signing from Real Sociedad most would be ok with that. He's decent.
Prob wont be able to move him on in January because of AFCON?

Interesting development. Would like to see him give it his all for another go with us. IMO he's an upgrade on Mav, but let's see how this goes. It does potentially save us one more transfer in and out in a summer where it seems difficult. If he plays well and still wants to leave, then we should get a good price in 12 months.

throw in the Greek tragedy as well………. Has there ever been a defence more error prone?

Not sure if they all played together but how about Gary Strodder, George Hilton and Tommy McQueen. Throw in Tom Mcalister in goal! Ouch what a combo 🤪

He’s better than Kilman. Although that’s not saying much.

John Drake" wrote: 25 Jul 2025, 09:49 Feel he lacks the physicality for English football. Maybe he has toughened up a bit or will be less exposed in a back three. Unfortanately, the most physical of the West Ham centre backs in Mav!
I get you. But he looks as fit as a butchers dog. And he is a very good ball player. So I hope in a 3 with two tougher players he can be granted more time on the ball and can be utilised more like a DM and bring the ball out.

One can only hope.

I am glad he is staying. He was outstanding for Morocco in the last Euro's in a back 3. Hopefully Potter brings that player out again.

If Potter is playing a back 3 a left footed centre half is essential

Dont need any more defenders unless Mavropanos is sold

Kilman is left-footed

He wasn’t great under Moyes, but I’m hopeful he’d be better suited to a back three. The main positive of him staying is that if he were sold, I imagine our transfer focus would shift away from central midfield — which is the area that needs the most attention.

He could be very good on his day, but made far too many costly errors. The same could probably be said about all our central defenders. I’m not a big fan of playing 3 at the back, but that seems to be the formation that Potter clings to. A back 3 of Aguerd, Kilman, and Todibo would at least be able to comfortably play the ball out, and Aguerd has pace which will help. What we really need is a leader in defence who can boss it, but there doesn’t seem to be many of them about.

Let’s give him a chance. The Moyes system didn’t do him any favours, and he’s also come back after a successful loan spell in Spain.

There were errors mostly witj his distribution but his biggest issue was lack of physicality and especially aerially. Got “rag dolled” everytime.  Cresswell although smaller competed physically far better but he could perhaps play the role Cresswell did as the left sided centre back. But his passing needs to be much more consistent or should I say bettet

I think he'll work well in Potter's system. Plays the ball well, as stubbo says. Definitely a good player.

If he does stay then I hope he's better in a back 3 than he was in a back 4. I thought he was too one footed but maybe that would be a bit less of a problem if he's on the left of a 3.
