"Free agency started last night and was pretty crazy some huge money being spent. Osweiler getting £18m a year for the Texans, leaving the Broncos without a QB, Giants have spent a fortune on good but not great players, Oliver Vernon has more guaranteed money than JJ Watt. lots more deals but cant be bothered to list them all."

Unfortunately, this is true!

It’s probably the single most important position in all of sport (in terms of team reliance on one person).

Yet, the Jets have had just one outstanding quarterback in their entire history, and a couple of other decent players.

Fucking useless at scouting, and then developing,  decent QBs. Even had one on the books just a few years ago, Darnold, then let him down and let him go. He’s now one win away from a Super Bowl!

Basically, the Jets are still not a serious franchise.
Yes- I should say that was not intended to stick the boot in, but just a 'comedy' parallel to make. It's extraordinary and of course there is some bad luck wrapped in there as well, but there's such a long list. It just makes it worse on the occasions when you see them going on to do better elsewhere at least if they suck everywhere it's almost a bit of consolation. And like West Ham it's under different coaches and GMs so it's hard to work out exactly how it happens (I guess ownership)

It seems ever harder for a rookie QB these days to get into the league and not flop when they've been drafted high by a needy team littered with poor players and had to play immediately. It's probably too much along with the expectation of being a single handed saviour for most of them to handle- add the pressure of playing in NY (completely different to Arizona, Nashville or Atlanta or some such place) and it's just so hard.

Unlucky in the draft this year as well with Moore maybe staying in school- although that could be a blessing in disguise- to be picking second in a draft with one prospect. Those things seem to happen a lot when you just need a break and it's so galling then you see someone picked in the teens or twenties who goes on to be really good (thinking the Bears drafting Trubisky over Mahomes- owch. Or anyone who passed on Rodgers in 2005) You have to be so lucky to get the right QB at the right time.

It's eminently harder than buying a competent centre forward, that's for sure.

Tomlin maybe.? You don’t need a QB.98-50 over 9 seasons ain’t too shabby. McDermott won’t be out of work too long.

I've got a Vikings shirt with Teddy Bridgeman on it I wanted to get John Randle on it but that's all they had at Twickenham.

Joe I've got a Kirby Puckett warm up shirt from Mitchell and Ness I wanted a game shirt but they didn't have any.

I’ve got one of those Mitchell & Ness retro jerseys with his name and number on it. Was going for a jog recently with it on when some child pulled up in his car and shouted at me “Ooooh you love a large gent!” And sped off.

So that’s ruined for me and can never be seen outside, unless at a game

Still plenty of football to be played before that possible match up.

As a West Ham and Seattle fan, almost my entire sporting history has been disappointment - so I’m not able to jump on any hype train yet…

Guaranteed, if Glenn starts next season with Marcus Mariota, Gardner Minshew or Tyrod Taylor at QB - however hindered he might be by lack of depth in the draft - the fans will be protesting and calling for his head within 3 games.

So, he and Mougey need to stop talking all that shit about rebuilds and taking their time, and scout very smartly now. If they can't find a decent QB somewhere in the draft order (I like the look of Chambliss, but he's a risk), they'll have to spend big.

Interesting situation playing out in the green half of New York now.

Glenn will lead them into the 2026-27 season. And he has two first-round picks in the draft, plus two second round picks (and three first-rounders in 2027).

But after an objectively woeful 3-14 season, in which we were genuinely lucky to win three games, Glenn and Mougey (GM) are going to be under massive pressure to win games from the start of next season. After 16 years of failure and no play off game, Jets fans are finally reaching boiling point.

Glenn seems to be in a state of blissful ignorance, even though he's sitting on the #2 and #16 picks this year. But he needs a good quarterback more than the side has ever needed one. And now Dante Moore, who was likely to go at #2, is going back to college.

It's not a deep QB class this year. Medoza and Moore were the two stand-outs - there are some other decent prospects further down the board. Glenn HAS to start winning, or the fans will simply leave the stadium next season (it's a bit like West Ham). And we have no quarterback, despite having huge draft capital. QB free agency doesn't look great. Only the likes of Marcus Mariota available - and if we turn up with him as the starter in front of that restless crowd, it coud be "goodnight, don't forget to turn the lights out" within three games.

If Mougey doesn't like the look of Ty Simpson (who divides opinion) or maybe Trinidad Chambliss from Ole Miss (a likely 2nd rounder), then he may have to take a big punt on a blockbuster trade for a big name (Burrow etc). But who wants to join?

I can see this ending badly, yet again, and Glenn going halfway through next season. And then there will ne yet another "rebuild" - the 14,000th in franchise history!

Jets have been interviewing eight DC candidates, which is a very strong indication that Aaron Glenn IS staying on for a second year - because he has been central to the selecton of interviewees.

Jim Leonhard (currently the assistat head coach at the Broncos and another ex-Jet) is arguably the best of the group. The other strong candidate would be Wink Martindale, the former Ravens DC. Wouldn't really want any of the others. Some really inexperienced guys elsewhere on the list. We don't need more rookie coaches. We need some hard-bitten fuckers who know their way around training facilities, playbooks and technical drills.
