However, I watched it again recently and I think it's a decent film and gets a lot of hate because Duvall wasn't in it and because Coppola cast his daughter as Pacino and Keaton's daughter after Winona Ryder dropped out - and she was beyond terrible.
Ray Liotta is good in it.
Coincidentally - I watched GF3 again recently and was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. I think I was disappointed first time around as was expecting another GF and GF2.... But I feel now, in its own right, its actually a good film and closes the trilogy out quite well.
First time I watched it, I also found the Church connection boring. I have obviously grown up since then as this time I found that really intriguing.
Still just wish Duvall had been in it.

Ray Liotta is good in it.Do you mean Andy Garcia?Haha, yes. Getting my Goodfellas and G3 mixed up there. My excuse is they were both released in 1990 so are contemporaneous films.
I liked the way he dealt with the intruder. Def picked the wrong house the fella.

Same as Sven.
I love Godfather 1&2 but 3 can go in the bin,it has no right having the word Godfather in the title.
Also the first real book i ever read and is still among my favourite ever novels.

Re: A Corpse - alypse now
Coppola was broke and needed a hit. Paramount knew this and green lit the movie only after he agreed to do it on a tighter budget. (Hence why Duvall was written out of it.) Everybody in Hollywood knew this. And why it did more damage to Coppola reputation. Then the actual movie did. Within the industry. Paramount made it up to Duvall by giving him a large payday to turn up in Days Of Thunder.
Duvall was 100% straight shooter. In Life. And in work.
RIP.

I enjoyed his performance in The Chase (1966). The first film he appeared in with Brando before the famous and iconic second one.
It's a shame his ego prevented him from appearing in The Godfather Part III as that film would have been much the better for it.
An abomination of a thread title by the way.Agreed. Such a shame. Although, he did have a point - Pacino was offered five times what Duvall was offered. He always said that he never, ever expected to earn the same and would have even taken the role for half or even a third of what Pacino earnt - But he said he couldn't bring himself to that as it was less than he had earnt for films he had made around that time which were not even big hits. Coppola never re-negotiated and told him the budget was set and that was it. Duvall admits he was surprised with Coppola's stance but then felt he couldn't go back with cap in hand due to personal pride.
Afterwards Coppola stated that Hagen wasn't completely essential to the third film, which hurt Duvall at the time. But they remained good friends and, in an interview six months ago, Duvall said he watched the films again numerous times in his life as they were so good.
Interesting that, but maybe what Coppola said about Duvall's character not being essential in the third film might be correct as the storyline/characters had moved on a lot since the second film. The Godfather Part 111 wasn't great anyway, as widely perceived.

Shame but he had a decent knock.
Great CV, his portrayal of Tom Hagan in the Godfather ( 1&2) is my favourite.
