Russia's 3 day Special Military Operation. They reckon over a million dead, and Ukraine still holding on.
Mad, difficult to see it ending anytime soon

Re: Still Holding the Line 4 years on. Russia Ukraine
Met a couple of Russian families a few years ago on holiday in Turkey, they weren't that old and loved football, music etc,. Despite the language barrier we all got on great. I sometimes wonder if the two lads are now worm food in Ukraine.

wils wrote: ↑24 Feb 2026, 12:49Not a defence of Russia. I don't doubt that stuff is happening on that side of the frontline that wouldn't happen on the other side of it. The point is there are no conclusions to be drawn from it. The whole war was pointless in the first place. Are we any better for treating our soldiers more humanely when we have been a key player in creating the circumstances for them to do what they are accused of doing in the first place. It was in our power to stop this slaughter and we chose not to. So who is worse?
We are key player?????
Are you a Putin apologist???
He started this war thinking it would be over in month or two
How the fuck is it possible in our power to stop Russia???
Choose not to stop this slaughter??
Sorry mate your views are sickening and come across as another Putin apologist

this Russian documentary on YouTube is worth a watch. Surprised it is still on there!
gives you an insight to the Russian front line. Treatment of Russian soldiers nothing short of shocking. Most say propaganda and money got them there and once they are there they don’t get paid.
poorly trained, poorly equipped. Was filmed around 2023. Once they reach bakhmut half the blokes interviewed are gone. It's probably still up as it's western propaganda for us to consume and make us think we are superior.
'Truth the first casualty of war' so we'll never really know what's going on in that war until years after it ends. All we can probably be sure of is there is awful things happening on both sides of the front line and behind the closed doors in the capitals of all the participants - which includes us.
An odd view. "Awful things happen on both sides" is the most hackneyed overused defence on places that are clearly a step beyond what most governments attempt to subject their own people too.

In my opinion It’s not propaganda. It’s showing the brutality of war and how these men are being treated. Regardless of the side they are on.
why don’t you watch it? 2 hours long. Even shows Ukranian troops fighting for Russia. Not the most ideal western propaganda. The documentary was done by a Russian woman filming Russian troops. Watch it and make your judgement then. Surely that would be better than using a quote from over 100 years ago when you have today’s technology actually showing you what a useless waste of life this all is.
Not doubting for one moment that really bad stuff is happening to the Russian soldiers. Just that anything that is allowed up on Western media platforms will be very selective in what it includes or omits and not giving us the whole picture. If I get the time I will watch it, but I am not going to put much weight on what it tells me.
