I think prem teams will always find it hard to win the CL because the league is tuned differently to the other leagues.  It’s a more physical league here so you have to build a team that can deal with that week in week out. Then after that you’ve got to deal with teams who play more technically in their own leagues and a ref in the CL who enforces a more technical game. 

So PL teams just get unstuck at the latter stages as the style of play in Spain etc just suits CL style more. 

maybe Liverpool had a perfect balance with Klopp when Mane/Salah was running things because it sort of had everything. Speed, technical ability and hard tackles etc. but that takes its toll. 

Just look at the crap refs are allowing in the PL with corners these days. No way is anyone getting away with that in the CL at higher levels. 

The thing is the PL “product” sells internationally,  maybe because it is that different to the other European leagues in terms of intensity etc. But at the moment I think the style of the league will mean the money spent at the big clubs will not turn into consistent CL success.

Interesting that Monaco,7th in Ligue 1 beat PSG last Friday having lost to them in the Qulaifying Round.
More interesting is PSG got their weekends game postponed against Nantes to concentrate on the CL. I am surprised that Ligue 1 just didn't give them a 5-0 victory. How that was allowed is surely against UEFA rules, thought you could only postpone a game due to mass injuries, not even a dodgy Lasagne could get you off the hook. Even more suprised that Chelsea didn't protest,maybe they have let it lie to the actual result of the first game and then get their lawyers protesting like mad.

The PL has all gone a bit Harlem Globetrotters, really, and anyone who pulls out the odd (and increasingly rare)  exciting PL match as some sort of proof that I am wrong rather emphasises my point.

But it serves it's purpose in syphoning money for the media & sponsors out of East & South-East Asia.

These are markets that still believe Man United are managed by Fergie and will continue to sweep all before them. The media have about 10 years to maximise this before the locals cotton on.

Local fans have no say, and that has long been the case.

But the Bundesliga has higher average attendances than the Premier League. 

Yeah. There's so much TV money in the Premier League that clubs with tiny grounds or low attendances like Bournemouth and Brentford can still compete financially. There are 10 clubs in the Championship with over 30k stadium capacities and more of them would be in the Premier League if TV money wasn't the main source of revenue.

It's also the fact that the era wasn't as over coached as it now is to the point some desperate Teams now employ Throw-In and Set-piece coaches to orchestrate and choreograph every fucking movement on a football pitch. Gone are the days when you could just sit back and enjoy plenty of off-the-cuff outstanding individualistic goals and that was in just 1 month like this such was the regularity of it!





I think Arsenal will just release a top 20 of the best Set-piece goals of the season to celebrate their season should they win the League after boring everyone to death in doing so.

Agree that it's not as entertaining as it was 10-20 years ago, VAR, set pieces time-wasting etc, but still have some cracking games. I watched a little Championship football of late, now that's boring!

Definitely nowhere near as good as it once was from around 1995-2005. It had it all back then and without the interference of VAR to cսnt it all up either. The entertainment, quality of Football and drama levels were off the charts compared to the often boring sanitised shit it's turned in to now by comparison. Sure rare moments of quality can still happen but compared to that era it doesn't come close as the complete package throughout the whole season.

Still the best league to watch 

 

 

No idea what league is the ‘best’ or what the criteria is, but I do find that Premier League games are mostly snoozefests these days. Too slow paced, technical and bogged down with tactics and shape. Individual flair having been replaced by organisation and athleticism. You do get the occasional good game, but too many are spoiled by play acting, general shithousery and a reliance on set pieces. 

It feels similar to the path that the once dominant Serie A took in the 1990s.

No English club is in a 2 horse race every season, is state sponsored or seems to have la Liga refs in their pocket or at least too scared to be too harsh on them, then the media in Spain, any rag or outlets that's overly critical of them, gets locked out or stopped from attending pre/post-match interviews etc

Sure, you can't deny their Trophy cabinet and honors list and the players they recruit due to the vast wealth and tax breaks they receive in Spain and their record in Europe is second to none, but when you only really have to worry about Barca domestically gives you plenty of time to concentrate on the CL.

So yeah, a big club, maybe the biggest but all built on a big advantage over everyone else, people talk about Man City buying and dominating the PL, but RM are next level.............and a bunch of entitled cunts.

So im never delighted to see them do well.

Well I obviously meant I was delighted to see the likes of Chelsea and City lose as opposed to RM winning. I know you have a thing about RM (previous threads you have started on them) and can't disagree with much of what you have said, I don't care for them either, but I suppose my point is the likes of City and Chelsea only become somebody's in recent years on the arrival of wealthy new owners i.e the Russian and the Arabs, respectively. Nobody can accuse RM of being plastic.

RM were infamously 'Franco's team' and remain the darlings of the establishment, the rich and out of towners. Working class Madrilenos prefer Atletico or Rayo

So what, I don't give a fuck about WHO wisdom, they are still on a different level as a football institution than City or Chelsea, which is my point.

So what? This is a cup competition on weird terms. If you're comparing leagues, take the fancy Dan teams out of the equation and look at your run if the mill teams. Who is the bigger and better team, Newcastle or St. Pauli? Villa or Amiens? Manchester United or Vallodolid? None of them in this competition, all of them in the top division of their league.

some of those might not actually be in their top division, they're just teams from Germany, France and Spain that I thought of who weren't in the Champions League. But if I got any wrong, that actually reinforces my point.

So what? WTF are you on about Gank son? i didn't disagree with your reasoning for the PL to be the best, despite this set of results, if anything i agree!

Every team even ones packed with superstars and in leagues they win nearly every season have off days and lose/draw the odd game, so really nothing to see with this set of results.

 

 

Perhaps I misunderstood your post. I took it to be in support of the thread opening post, that somehow the results of English teams this week mean that the English team is somehow inferior to other European leagues. Apologies if I jumped to an incorrect conclusion.
