Seems like the main politics thread is becoming a Yankee-Doodle Trump-fest, so maybe scope here to split them out.

Will see if this one gains any traction ..if it does will move over a few of the million posts from our two protagonists from the other thread.

Or put another way, Trump doesn't have to blink first and has time to wait to see who blinks first before him. Japan, Canada, France, UK seem to be having very twitchy eyes already which tells us something.. (No Japs eye jokes please otherwise the WHO AI grass Police will flag you racist fuckers!). 

This is costing the US $1bn a day and they are the ones actually fighting the war.
This is Trumps war - he is the one who will come under increasing pressure especially given where he is in the election cycle and how opposed his country is to this war.

The other countries do not want to join this war, and neither do their people.

The longer is goes, the more the markets bleed, the more pressure Trump comes under to TACO. Nobody else can stop this.

most of us oldies were brought up by people who were affected by WW2, we were told that war was a bad thing to live through. We passed that on to the next generations and we have become passive, scared to talk about problems without being labeled as some nutjob, right/left wing racist, paedo, woke, loony... the youth of today don't know suffering. We've ensured for the most that everything is to be handed to them on a cottonwool plate... I see serious mental-health problems moving forward for our young with life's pressures, not too sure as a nation we're ready for difficult times ahead.

Like you said, let's hope it doesn't come to the extremities.

The pressure will be "you can stop this" not "lets all join a war to secure the Strait".

Trump is already under pressure back home and that will only increase.

No. He can soon walk away with another precise military victory under his belt, rid Iran of a shit load of Leaders that knew what they were doing that leaves the path clear for an uprising if the Iranians choose to do so that would be aided by Kurds and weaponry the US would happily donate,  so they don't have to. He (US) doesn't depend on the Strait, all his Allies pretty much do however, even China does which is another key Iranian ally component in applying pressure on Iran to pack it in. Trump has all the time in the world to let this now play out and lo and behold already the Jap PM rocks up at the White House in double quick time, funny that.. 

The US does rely on imports of oil. About 30-35% of their oil used is imported.
They import about 25% of fertiliser for their farming industry.
The cost of oil drives everything.
Any movement in prices hits them, as you can see at the moment where pertrol prices have gone up by 30%.

He absolutely does not have time on his hands. Economically they are as exposed as anyone, from a markets point of view they are more exposed.

thinking back to the 1970's and the 3-day week... we got on with things, people pulled together community wise (the same with Covid)... there are benefits, more use of public-transport (if you're bothered about the environment, less fucking MPV's on the road), kids will learn how to walk to school, cleaner air etc., etc.

it's not always about the money, sometimes hardship can create unexpected benefits nationwide, take the positives from the negatives, WW2 taught us that (keeping on topic).

The joint press release was nothing but a flimsy statement about how everyone benefits and we should all abide by the laws.

The biggest and most powerful navy on the planet won't go anywhere near the Strait at the moment, that tells you how bad it is.

Like I pointed out the other day, all Trump needs to do right now is wait it out in regards to Hormuz and the allies will soon begin to fall in to place and play their part somehow and voila!

You did say that, but that approach simply won't work.
The US are as exposed to this as anyone else, they will see the same inflation spike from energy and input costs, the same economic slowdown, the same market impacts as everyone else.

Because of their exposure to the bond market and borrowing costs, they may even get it worse.


This war is getting worse for them (and us) every day it goes on.

Of course they don't have to. What is America's concern, is there concern with how they want to play it. Just as Japan had that right in WWII.
