I had a pair of red platform shoes that Elton John would have been proud of.

Nightclub attire late 80s. Burgundy shirt, burgundy cardigan, yellow fabric pencil tie with gold tie pin. Grey sta press trousers with black loafers to finish. Lord alone knows what I was thinking! At least I didn't add white towelling socks with it. Did I pull? No!

Curtains with an undercut hairstyle. What the fuck was that all about?
Re: Fashion faux pas from ones youth
The multicoloured mullet I had in the 80s was pretty inexcusable.
Being in various bands lead to some pretty tragic combinations this one being the oddest.
Flying boots, silver shakeskin lycra trousers, bullet belt and UV flourescent (we had a blacklight strobe) psychedelic face and body paint suited the band in my mind.

There's a lot of Robert Smiths around but the best one that fits your description, Nurse is Robert Smith from the Cure?

There was a kid at school who wasn’t the brightest, and I saw him years later wandering round in his late teens, wearing a black leather jacket with Ghostbusters proudly emblazoned on the back, with what looked like Tippex.
LOL. I had a mate who was fat he died the bottom of his frayed jeans white and he looked like a shire horse

Things that were actually in fashion cannot be described as faux pas.Mad Dog wrote: ↑24 Mar 2026, 15:24 Went through a designer gear phase in my early 20s (late 90s early 2000s) and some of the choices get a few comments from my friends
Other than that my early 90s shell suits, and i definitely wore football shirts more than i should have as a teen (and now To be fair.. but mainly to games around the house and gym these days)
