Kick Cat Fears West Ham could derail Britain’s bid to host World Athletics Championships

Premier League club would need to vacate their home for the first three weeks of the 2029-30 season to accommodate the athletics

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/athletics/2 ... ships-bid/
Fears are growing that Britain’s bid to host the World Athletics Championships in 2029 could be scuppered by West Ham United’s reluctance to give up their home for three weeks.

West Ham secured tenancy of the London Stadium after they were given what was considered to be a generous deal but have not agreed to vacate the stadium at the beginning of the 2029-30 season for three weeks while organisers of the athletics event reconfigure the stadium for the nine-day event.

World Athletics has other major cities interested in hosting the event, including Rome, Munich and Nairobi, and prefers a September timescale so that it remains the finale to the athletics season.

When Coe agreed the deal to retain the track he should have adopted the attitude of when re jigging the seating to accommodate athletics/ football any costs should be looked at as coming out of his own pocket, but no, he’s not a halfpenny worse off, it’s every taxpayer’s money so it matters not a fucking jot to him, just sign off make believe money so some anorexic cunts can have a jog about.
Geo came out with a good idea the other day- do the athletics in the international break, no impact on West Ham but still everyone is paying for the conversion on a stadium that’s already losing money hand over fist.

Fucking idiots in charge of shit, Piss up , brewery etc.

I loved Coe as an athlete and credit to him for 2012 but he has been part of an absolute shambles re the stadium especially when you consider that the city of manchester stadium was built for a major athletics event but built "with football in mind". You would have thought with all the lawyers involved the contract with West Ham would have specifically laid ground rules for who takes priority in a major athletics championship year. What a mess that's been created.

IN my eyes. UK athletics seems to be at exactly the same stage as it was in 2011.

All those promises, all that government/taxpayer money spent (and still being spent) and nothing tangible or of worth delivered - not even a token "legacy".

West Ham have won 3 FA Cups and 2 European trophies. They have also been runners up in the FA Cup twice, League Cup twice and ECWC. There would be at least eleven medals for each, making it 110 medals. That’s before you start counting the Wartime League Cup, Division Two and of course the World Cup.

GB won five medals at the last World Championships (no golds).

Who gives a fuck about Athletics?

Football’s the nations sport - Athletes are either amateurs looking to go pro, hooray Henry’s or athletes who failed at proper sports.

They can win as many medals as they like - I still don’t care.

Lord Coe made a firm commitment during the London 2012 bidding process to ensure a lasting athletics legacy for the Olympic Stadium, promising it would not become a "white elephant" like some previous Olympic venues
. He argued that keeping the running track was crucial for maintaining Britain's credibility in international sport.

Key aspects of the promised legacy and its evolution:
  • The Original Promise: Coe committed to retaining the athletics track after the 2012 Games, rejecting options that would have seen it removed for a purely football-focused venue, such as the initial proposal from Tottenham Hotspur.
  • The Solution: The stadium was ultimately transformed into a multi-purpose, 54,000-seat venue, which became the home of West Ham United while still retaining the capability to host athletics events, including the 2017 World Athletics Championships.
  • Challenges: The process faced significant delays, legal challenges, and soaring conversion costs, which rose to over

     million, largely funded by taxpayers.
  • Opposition: Critics argued that the multi-purpose solution was a compromise, as the football seating configuration required by the track left spectators further from the pitch, a key point in the debates surrounding the legacy.

Guaranteed that a suitably stuffed brown envelope/thread of a police enquiry into "historical events" will ensure that Sullivan doesn't object to this.

Hey, fair play Keeley. GB are going to smash their all time record and win 7 or more golds? Would be a marked improvement from last world championship when they won, erm, fuck all events.
