Re: Bands you think of as 'One person plus anybody'

Maybe I’m showing my lack of knowledge about the band but as someone who’s not hugely into them, I’d say The Cure

Re: Bands you think of as 'One person plus anybody'

A lot of people would say Bon Jovi but that does overlook Ritchie Sambora’s talent as a guitarist.  I personally felt Bon Jovi was a waste of his talent and he should have been in a better band.

Most people would say this about Adam and the Ants, but that overlooks Marco Pirroni’s contribution to the songwriting and Chris Hughes’ expertise as a drummer and producer.

Although I’m not into The The, weren’t they essentially Matt Johnson’s vehicle?

Re: Bands you think of as 'One person plus anybody'

I think Rainbow and Hawkwind must be the ultimate examples of this.

UFO also went through a few years of being essentially Phill Mogg’s band

That’s a little unfair on Martin Barre. He was a major part of the Jethro Tull sound for decades

Re: The Official Politics Thread (enter at your own risk)

When was the last time we had a popular and competent PM? Probably Blair for about his first three years. It’s difficult to believe now,  but for his first three years or so, it felt like the country was being run by someone who knew what he was doing. But then Bush got in and Blair immediately sta...

Re: Do you believe in God? How would you explain your beliefs?

I’m an atheist.  I’m possibly a humanist except that I don’t pretend to fully understand exactly what the difference between an atheist and a humanist actually is. I am a firm believer that science should be able to explain the universe without resorting to deities or magic.         Years ago I atte...

Hawkwind's Hall of the mountain grill box set. I cracked dm and it was my birthday present to myself.  It is worth it for the CDs 2 and 3 on their own. The Space Ritual band still together with the new material and it is superb. The band are still facing the same way and Lemmy's bass playing... I’l...

Re: Covered songs better than the original.

What about live versions of the original studio versions of a song by the same band/artist. Would they count as a cover better than the original? Have a few that spring to mind - every track on Deep Purple's Made in Japan for starters. For that I’d say that the best version of Mighty Quinn that I’v...
