He doesnt look very quick and has that languid, lazy look to his running and when he is on the ball.  Reminiscent of Kouyate but a tad quicker. No problems physically in terms of strength but can he cover the ground quickly enough? That was Alvarez’s problem and cost him bookings with late challenges.

Obviously need to give him a few games / time and in an 11 man team but my initial reaction is that he will not plug the gap that Rice left. Its amazing that with all these analytics that we cannot seem to get pace in the team. It can only be down to the requirements being specified. If you are not looking for that attribute you dont get it.

He will be an upgrade on Soucek, JWP and Guido but not sure that is a high bar.

Im surprised no one thought of signing him in July and let him play a few games preseason, get used to the formation, if one exists.. Still I'm sure he will pick it up as he goes along.

Do these last minute signings ever work out?

Bit early to judge, obviously. Thought he looked OK, certainly good enough to start ahead of JWP, Rodders and the inexplicably rated Irving. That's not saying much though.

He doesn’t look ready to be starting games but a bit harsh to judge him coming on at 0-2 with ten men. Unless you are desperate to say I told you so.
