"Comma ""more info is coming out..."" it's all on CCTV. Yes the woman came to request an exchange/return. Shop said no as there was nothing faulty which is their legal right. She then just started taking stuff on the shelves she thought she had the right to take and to walk out. This is theft. No ifs or buts. It's theft (shoplifting). He then spent a while trying to stop her leaving by standing in between her and the exit door and pushing her back in when she tried to push past him. She hit him repeatedly over and over including with an object. After a long time of this he then restrained her clearly using reasonable force prior to the Police arriving. She then managed to smash him around the head with a shopping basket at which point he momentarily put his hands around her neck from behind and held onto her (not strangling her) and then after a couple of seconds returned to restraining her arms at which point she stopped hitting him with the basket. Then the Police turned up. She is scum. He is protecting his business which is his legal right. He restrained her which was his legal right. Whether that 2 seconds of contact with her neck was unlawful or reasonable force is a question for the justice system to decide. I would suggest that having been repeatedly hit and then hit around the head with a shopping basket that he would be found not guilty of assault as he'd not caused any injury and the increased force caused no injury and stopped her hitting him. I have zero sympathy for her. She is a violent thief."

If anyone attempted to rob my house I’d have no problem making sure they left in a body bag. Tortured prior to death.

Personally if anyone was proved to be a serial thief I’d chop their fucking hands off. Think the tea leaf culture would stop overnnight as a result.

Even when challenged by men including me he threw all the stuff out the main entrance door with a view to retrieving it. Basically the staff member said the police never come and that was that. Could see him and his sewer rat mates lurking round the corner after probably waiting for another chance. Help yourself at the Co-op. Very sad. The front of these people to not give a shit even when caught red handed.

Some people will always try and chance there arm if they think they can get away with something for nothing & if they get away with it once will continue to do so and others watching on will then be likely do the same leading to total lawlessness. I feel sorry for those whose job it is to challenge this behaviour as very often they are on minimum wage and a hiding to nothing as soon as they become involved in any kind of confrontation someone decides to start filming and it ends up on social media with the footage edited to make them look heavy handed or aggressive when the likelihood is they are mearlly trying to restrain the perpetrator who has kicked off. 25 years ago if there was an in incident or indeed an accident people would generally try and help out and maybe call for the old bill or ambulance but nowadays the first thing they reach for is a phone to start filming it. What a sad indictment of modern society

"The shoplifting thing, or the push to stop challenging people who do it is another lefty initiative. Their thinking is people only steal because of structural inequalities in society and they can't afford to buy them. So the thinking is let them get away with it firstly as they believe the solution lies in fixing societies structural inequalities (see Defund the Police etc) but also as a method to redistribute wealth. "A month or so ago I was in my local sainsbury’s waiting to go through the self check out doings,fully loaded up about a twoers worth. Was a bit short staffed as a result a bit slow getting through(normally a few minutes) fella behind was absolutely loaded.saw a queue reversed up and strolled straight out. I’d guess he had well over three hundred quids worth. Wasn’t sure what to do.grass him up……..?? Didn’t bother but couldn’t believe he had the front. Now whether this bloke does it all the time is anyone’s guess. Rough descripton(as if it now matters) 45 fairly big,reasonably dressed,London accent.Definitely not an “eastern”"

"Branded, sorry if I misunderstood your point, but are you saying a shopkeeper should not be able to manhandle a shoplifter? They should let them just walk out the door with their belongings? Is it a stretch to say that is like you should comply with a mugger and can't fight back?"

Every day I see numerous people pushing through the barriers as if it is their divine right with very often TFL staff standing watching. I’m down with this. If we weren’t such an apathetic nation a movement could be created where every single passenger on every single train one day a week refuses to buy a ticket. Unless a stand happens they prices will keep going up and up and they are already insanely expensive.

"Saw a couple of videos on Twitter from the US., Two women in one were just filling up dustbin sacks full of boxed trainers from a shelf and then walking out. In another an employee was filming a woman just loading a full trolley of meat that she had walked out with into a car. Guess they do it because they get away with it. And there I was once going back to Sainsbury to pay for a rotisserie chicken I forgot to scan!"

What happened next? Local Co-Op. Leafy streets of Benfleet. Go in just as what looks like a young shoplifter collared by staff demanding they've got to pay for all that and attempting to frog march him toward the tills........

"I live in a sleepy town outside of San Francisco. We have a TJ Maxx, which was robbed last week. The employees are instructed not to intervene. The robbers need to drive at least three miles on a windy road to reach a highway and the Police normally pick them up. They are rarely imprisoned because there is no room. In San Francisco proper, the stores are closing down because it doesn’t make financial sense to pay for a shop full of security guards and lock everything up in cabinets. In our residential neighborhood, Amazon, UPS and FedEx deliver packages all day long. It’s easy to see where this is going. Boarded up shops and a hollowed out high street."
