Thanks for all your suggestions. I obviously did all of them. Except Bruuno's suggestion. That's for Sunday night.

"West Ham is about people, not places. Yske him to Hackney Wick. Get pissed up and do a knees up. When City score be profane loudly with lots of cunts. When we score snog him."

"Pie and Mash in Canning Town, the Boleyn, a photo at the statue and a look at the mural alongside Ercans before a browse in the Newham bookshop. A big red London bus to the Black Lion before walking to Stratford via the Greyhound. Foot long hotdog and slush puppy to make him feel at home in the bowl before he settles down for the soccer"

As others have said probably the Boleyn. Apart from the stadium that bit of Green Street from Upton Park to the corner is pretty much unchanged. Its totally different inside now but can't have everything. If the weather is nice I'd suggest the Black Lion. Go via dogshit alley if you want. If you're feeling fit its also semi walkable to/from Stratford. Plus there's all the history etc associated with it that a yank will appreciate.

"The Boleyn looks spectacular these days after the £1.5 Million refurb. You could tell him WH fans were always a very sophisticated bunch while pointing to the arts and crafts ceramic tiles, the stained glass windows and roof lantern where the pool tables used to be. Then buy him a pint of Bermondsey Best for £6.75p"
