"There is an Athens based WHOer, he isn't active but did reply to a WHOie I sent him one time, so might be worth a shot. He said there is a boozer there where Irons sometimes meet up for games. http://westhamonline.net/profile.php?210989"

"Simon - Good shout, a couple of days in Athens with a load of West Ham fans, hardly gonna be shit is it. I would rate your chances of getting a ticket pretty high, it's only a EL group game and isn't their stadium quite big? Never been to Athens also, meant to be a bit rough around the edges but with good nightlife, probably what you'd expect."

I'd booked my hotel and then my youngest has got signed by an Academy so I have to be doing 90 mile round trip with him every Wednesday and Thursday evening so won't be going now. Bit gutted. Cancelled the hotel room. I'll be watching on my phone sat in a car park in the dark now. Luxury lifestyle.

Athens is great but 3-4 days will be sufficient to see everything and have spare time.

As the ground is out of the centre but near a station so anywhere in Athens will be ideal. I stayed in Psirri at Acropolis View apartments that has the smallest lift I have ever been in. Monastiraki Sq station is about 10 minutes walk and there are load of bars and restaurants around so you won't go thirsty or hungry.

We always complain about our ticketing operation but to be fair they seem more effective than the ticketing departments of opposition teams that we've played in Europe over the last couple of years. Never any info until a relatively short period before away matches.

"Obviously wont be able to go to this but was in Athens this year. Loved it! I stayed at Athens Gate Hotel near Acropolis and Plaka district. We drove past the stadium, its very near Piraeus port so a few miles from the center but its on the metro so should be easy to get to. Enjoy it those who go!!"

"I just put Athens in the destination box. Was there in 99 for an England game, stayed in a place called lagonsi (sp) was about £80 in a taxi - split 4 ways. Few of the lads stayed on holiday islands and got the ferry across. There is usually a way."

"Stayed in the Grande Bretagne which is in a good part of the city near the parliament building. Great views from the roof. Athens is a great city. Mad to drive in, but I love it."
