Education in the UK
"Any of you lot have kids at school or college ? Do you think you know what is being taught to your kids, without your permission ? My wife is a personal tutor at a college They have an HR department that instructs the staff to call all the kids they They insist on a virulent woke agenda throughout everything they do Latest, they all had to stay behind ( in their own time ) to listen to a trans in pigtails talking about how great it is to be them. 99% of all staff hate this agenda but are being bullied to accept it or face ""consequences"". I said to my wife it sounds like indoctrination akin to the Nazi regime I said to her thank god we don't have kids at school these days The head has assemblies where she doesn't address the kids as boys or girls What the fuck happened to our country and why is this allowed to continue dye to a vocal minority of cunts She leaves at Christmas as she's had enough"

"What the fuck do you know about teaching and schools.in the uk? How on earth would teaching algebra and pythagoras be improved if I started talking political in class? Hamas has 3x rocket launchers and 2y ak47s and killed 42 people Israel has 4 x the amount or rocket launchers but only killed..... Bellend O do show how maths cam be applied jn real life and the work place. I've no need to bring politics into it. Nobody at school needs to know how I vote or my views on Any topics for me to be an effective teacher, nor should I he using my position to try and convert people to amlny viewpoint. Other teachers do, that's up to them. I don't think we should be doing that"

"frank, I view it only slightly differently, Maggie SMASHED* the Unions, their membership numbers dwindled due to lack of benefit of affiliation and the far left moved into the ruins. Thus leaving the average working man with no protection, representation or enpowerment. Either way they hold little appeal or use for most of us."

Re: Education in the UK
I’m genuinely curious - how does one go about teaching maths in any kind of useful context without taking politics into the classroom?
Re: Education in the UK
I use to really back the unions. Not anymore since they have been hijacked by the far left

Re: Education in the UK
Then you’d be teaching applied maths for real-world economics and management. What a novel idea.

MD In general I agree with your sentiment. I think you're being hard on Christmas jumper bloke/woman though. It's a mild play on words.

"1 it's absolute cringe 2. I don't think teachers have any business whatsoever bringing politics into a classroom. I see that as a political position itself. I’d also rather you were up front about it because it will mean we have clarity in the staff room. Also, no reason why you can’t have a political position as long as it doesn’t reduce your effectiveness in the classroom. And indeed, if you were teaching say the English Reformation, Supply-Side Monetary Policy or Ocean-Current Hydraulics in the Anthropocene, don’t think you’d be effective at all without a political position."

Re: Education in the UK
The other thing I did was leave the Union. They wouldn’t give you any support if you stood up against any of this because they fully support it. Union reps are driving a lot of it. Leave the Union and join Edapt which is entirely non political but gives you the legal protection you need in the job.

Re: Education in the UK
"Teachers have no business bringing their politics into the classroom, unfortunately many do, all of them varieties of leftists in my experience. Many do it subtly, some not so much as in MD’s jumper example. In teaching you are in a very privileged position of being able to shape minds at an impressionable age. You can select information that guides them in a particular direction and ignore information that you don’t want them to be exposed to. Ive seen far too many examples to list but will give a couple here. The English department teaching The Hunger Games and explaining that the elites in District 1 are like the Brexit camp whilst the oppressed in the other districts are like the Remain camp. I pointed out that if you really had to align the two, given all the data available it should have been the other way round. Another example is when they had anti racist day and every single example chosen of many the aggressor was a white man. I’ve seen Citzenship (fortunately abandoned now) curriculum that was designed solely to indoctrinate a whole generation. It’s content looked at things like why immigration is fantastic and didn’t include any, not one drawback of immigration. Ditto for EU membership. On a personal level I won’t indulge any more. I won’t attend the indoctrination sessions and I let them know that if they force me, I will explain at the session exactly why it is an indoctrination session and why we shouldn’t be forced to be there. I also won’t use language in the classroom that indicates there are more than two genders. Fortunately I’m at an age where I don’t give a fuck any more. At the end of the day, too many people look for these problems to be solved by someone else when this shit will on,y stop when enough sane individuals refuse to indulge it any more."

1 it's absolute cringe 2. I don't think teachers have any business whatsoever bringing politics into a classroom. I make a point of never ever hinting at any views I have on any political topic. I'm here to teach maths. They can make up their own minds.

"Plenty of expats still take their kids back to the UK for a ''better education'' A can of worms yes, and you would be here all day with it, and much would depend I suppose on the country where they were previously living in. Just saying."

Re: Education in the UK
"My sister is head of year at one of the most expensive girls schools in the country. The woman is psychotic in the literal sense , takes a whole pharmacy of medication every day. Many of her colleagues are the same - the head went for a geezer with a breadknife recently after flipping out after smoking skunk. Sis got the job after calling someone racist during a group email back in the BLM hysteria. She is a political activist and seems proud of the fact that she uses her role to brainwash children. Was teaching 7 year olds about the importance of identity politics the other day. If she wasn’t my sis I’d grass her up as being unsuitable for teaching children. As far as I know the situation is the same in most schools. I don’t have kids but if I do no way do I want to have them educated by this fucking nuthouse of a system we have in the UK. It disturbs me to the point that it keeps me awake at night"

Re: Education in the UK
Apologies ED but what the fuck are you on about? I've merely recounted my personal current experience. I have never said bullying never went on in the past - that would be plainly ridiculous. I did make the point that bullying is able to enter the sanctuary of home in a way it wasn't prior to social media. Not too much to get excited about there I wouldn't have thought but well done for giving it a go.

"Fo the Communist 2:35 Wed Oct 11 Much as that's a really horrible thing to happen to a kid, bullying at school has gone on since the dawn of time, and will continue forever more. Kids can be cruel bastards. This what's happening, which you've tried to deny is happening in the past, is a completely different animal. Well done for trying to belittle it, though. Your denials from the past have clearly been proven otherwise."

Mike - you can read all about the British values in the first link. Thrill-a-minute stuff but I'm not sure they mention either cricket or yodelling though.

"Are these ""British Values"" promoted anywhere online? If they are I'd be interested to see them. Any that include understanding cricket would instantly fuck me - and I'm Romford born & bred. Can still yodel like a proper milkman though."
