Re: England v Australia
Massive game for Mavropanos and Greece tonight at home to the Netherlands. A win would put them 6 pts clear with a game v already qualified France to finish. Netherlands have ROI h & Gibraltar a to finish
Re: England v Australia
"Poor game lbh. Never got going. Grealish clearly unfit couldn't beat his man. Maddison for all his hype this year was our worst player. Terrible set pieces. God knows after so many duff ones he didn't hand them them over to the best one in the country in TAA. Even Bowens corners are better. In the 2nd half Bowen must have gone 20 minutes plus without touching the ball. Most of the play went down the left. His area was to congested, one decent run but he ran out of space . Every player made an error of some sort. Southgate like Moyes needs to be pro active. After the Italy game he needs to just not play his strongest 11 and see over the 2 games in November he is worth another go."
Re: England v Australia
"Took the grandkids with their football team mates to the game last night. It was all young lads really. The game was awful and no competitive edge as it was a friendly but all the youngsters loved their first experience of a game and the stadium. As mentioned Ex though, a dreadful venue to get to. Allied to it raining “stair rods” a Friday night traffic gridlock it was no wonder the place was empty 5 mins before the game ended. On Bowen? Well only a fool ( Southgate) would read anything into that for assessi ga player. Bowen was fed scraps and starved of the ball with the team directing everything thru the ineffective Grealish. Because it was a friendly game and the Aussies pressed and physically closed down well but a midfield containing Maddison, Henderson and Gallagher was dreadful. It did look like Trent and those midfielders thought Bowen had leprosy or something as they just didn’t look for him and move the ball far too slowly as he was making runs but ignored. Southgate is past his sell by date by the looks of things and blind loyalty to players out of form or not playing regularly and because they play for the rich clubs seems to drive his selection policy"

"The major ones are the countries the smaller countries like to get one over on, Football, Athletics/Olympics gets the World together to compete....the rest is meh.....look at the quarter finals in the rugby.....only really France & England have that 'got to beat them' as a nation factor about them. The rest you are just wanting to win because they may have a great team at this time otherwise they are meh countries globally."

Re: England v Australia
"Major nations on the planet ... in terms of population USA China & India maybe? Soviet Union? Which sports apart from football would you describe as true team world wide sports. India play cricket and a bit of hockey maybe. China ... not sure they have a presence in ANY team sports. Ditto Soviets USA ... baseball, NFL & basketball. None of which is a true world wide sport Australia have AFL , rugby league & cricket so football is well down the pecking order. Rugby union is on the decline being squeezed for talent by the AFL draft and their general incompetence and restricted private school base."

"Australia have only really succeeded in World team sports that are in fact a slightly extended version of the commonwealth countries........England have only done just slightly better on the true world stage, and some of that can be down to being Team GB rather than just England. Look at the Rugby & Cricket W/Cups.....it involves few if any of the major nations on the planet."

Re: England v Australia
Dont understand the point of this friendly Southgate obviously thinks the same with his second XI out who will NEVER play together again. What he needs to do is play a virtually full strength team in a dead qualifier but giving Watkins or Toney a full match Missed opportunity for Australia to beat this rag tag collection. Good work by the Australian coach to get ex-coaches Guus Hiddinck & Postecogolu in to address the players in the days before. Postecogolu won the Asian Cup as manager and qualified for the 2018 WC before quitting before the finals as he didnt think Football Australia were serious about growing the game. Interesting to hear him say that the game will never progress in Australia as the people dont really love the game.

"Just been on Twitter to see how our boy did… seems that the nasty fuckers wouldn’t pass him the ball. Shame, I only watched ten minutes and Bown instigated a great move which Watkins couldn’t tap home. At least if Rice had been on the pitch Bowen might have found some more of the ball coming his way."
