Would you offer Moyes a new contract?
Would you offer Moyes a new contract?
"With David Moyes contract finishing at the end of the season and we fast approach the half way stage of the season, would you offer Moyes a new contract? (Might be worth doing as a WHO Poll). I personally wouldn’t, interesting to see Potter as huge favourite for our next manager and him turning down other roles (although could be waiting for England). Note Alonso sitting in the second favourite."
Re: Would you offer Moyes a new contract?
"I don't agree with that. Based on our revenues, I think we are more or thess where wee should be."

"Currently the biggest overachievers in the league based on STATS. We should, in theory, be in 14th place. https://i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2023/10/18/13/76704863-0-image-a-48_1697631172558.jpg"

Re: Would you offer Moyes a new contract?
"There are risks in any course of action. Of course hiring a new manager involves unpredictable risks. However, keeping Moyes on means the totally predictable risk of stagnation and the loss of Paqueta, Emerson, JWP, Bowen, Kudus and others by attrition. You can tie them down on contracts all you like, but once someone comes in with a bid and the player wants out because of the manager, the only way is down and out."

"Jose Willtinho, look in the mirror to see a gobshite wanker"
Re: Would you offer Moyes a new contract?
"Willtell - I didn't say your opinion was condescending I said you thinking others don't understand the risks is. I don't think there is one person on here who thinks changing manager is without risk. You talking down to others thinking they don't understand that is fucking insulting. Only gobshites on here that want him gone? Well as someone who goes and speaks to other fans I can confirm that's not the case, yes there are obviously more that want him to stay now. But last season I couldn't find hardly anyone that did."

I played and managed at County League level until I was 50. And I got my FA coaching badge. How about your practical knowledge of football? Why is suggesting that sacking our most successful manager in donkey’s years condescending? Perhaps you’d like Allardycci back or Pellegrini perhaps? 63,000 every game suggests it’s only gobshite wankers on here that want him gone…"

Re: Would you offer Moyes a new contract?
"Willtell I'd say everyone knows replacing Moyes would be a risk. With Steiden in place it appears that we will improve signings and be unlikely to be in relegation scrap. With our budget, I doubt we can do much better than Moyes is doing. We don't have money to get Champions League etc - I'm realistic as are most of the fans. If we finish 10th or whatever then with our budget I'm not going to throw my toys out of the pram. However, I would not renew his contract because it is entirely possible to finish 10th or similar most seasons with our budget and playing football that is actually entertaining on a regular basis. Yes that's a risk but I have faith that with Steiden in role he could find someone that would be equally able to get a regular mid table finish and play football that is not so atrocious."
Re: Would you offer Moyes a new contract?
"Sir Alf 10:39 Thu Oct 19 Yes, we're clearly getting more points than expected according to those xG stats, although to be fair last year we were getting a lot less. This season we should be in 13th place, not 7th. Last season we should have finished in 11th place rather than 14th; the season before that 10th instead of 7th. If it shows anything (doubtful) it might just be that under Moyes we're a mid table side who will lurch between the European places and the relegation spots dependent on...well probably luck as much as anything."

Re: Would you offer Moyes a new contract?
"Maybe it will come down to the Scotland national job, hasn't Moyes said he would like to be a manager of the Sweatys one day? I know they have qualified for Euro 24 but isn't Steve Clarke only contracted until that tournament has finished, cant see them doing too much, Moyes may well think its his time with the 2026 WC the next tournament, maybe the Scottish FA have him lined up..........."
Re: Would you offer Moyes a new contract?
"Opta and those paragons of truth the BBC ;-). are looking at the stats of things like expected goals and possession and saying we are the most overperforming team ? Scoring far more goals with fewer chances than we deserve to it seems? They say we should be mid table at best ? Will be interesting to see if they are right or wrong over the coming weeks and may prove that these stats alone are meaningless but on the other hand over the season may see us slide down to mid table mediocrity. Win another cup and who cares ? The BBC report states: “Early-season enthusiasm around West Ham might've been a bit premature, with the Hammers overperforming their expected goals more than any other side. While they did pull off a masterclass against Brighton and won comfortably against Sheffield United, overall performances so far suggest a top-half finish at best.”"

Willtell - Are you that niaive that you think those clamouring for a new manager don't realise it's risky. For someone who comes across clueless about football you're quite condescending about those that want a change.
Re: Would you offer Moyes a new contract?
"""Yes Willtell, thanks because NOBODY else knew this, please keep us informed."" ------------------------------------- No need for that sort of comment fraser! Clearly lots of people DON'T know that changing manager has risks otherwise they wouldn't be clamouring for getting rid of our most successful manager in donkey's years. As Nagel says Steidten has corrected the acquiring of good players which was a Moyes weakness and Sullivan has a history of employing hoofball managers that concentrate on defending. Attacking managers like Zola, Bilic & Pellegrini all went for defensive minded managers to keep our PL status."
Re: Would you offer Moyes a new contract?
"A good fit replacement in my opinion would be when Howe inevitably gets the tin tack at Newcastle, getting him through the door. His biggest weakness was picking players in the transfer market, but he's showing at Newcastle he can coach bigger players, has them playing on the front foot and aggressively and would fit a profile I could see Sullivan going for. Of course if Sullivan plans to sell up, we may as well wait for new owners who will want their own man anyway."
Re: Would you offer Moyes a new contract?
"I've wanted Moyes gone for a long time, but at this point am on the fence. The arrival of Steidten is seemingly fixing some of our issues and if they can work together then maybe it can work. He still feels for me like a glass ceiling, but for me we have to look at the most important players in our squad and decide are they backing him or hoping for change. It's much easier to change one man than 5 or 6, but if they're onboard with his strategy generally, then whose to say he doesn't longer another year or two BUT I'd like to see a change deep down. For a defensive manager we ride out luck and concede way too many good chances, and our inferiority complex playing the bigger sides is embarrassing. But as has been proven by bigger clubs than ours...picking managers is a tough thing to do."
Re: Would you offer Moyes a new contract?
"Also worth pointing out that in the 5 seasons after they sacked di Matteo Chelsea won 2 Premier leagues, the Europa League & the League cup, which seems a lot more relevant than where they are now, 11 years later. Leicester also went on to win the FA cup for the first time in their history a few years after sacking Ranieri. Again, more relevant than where they are now."

Re: Would you offer Moyes a new contract?
"SnarestoneIron, so you're saying that if they'd both kept those managers on for years then it's guaranteed that they'd definitely be doing better than they are now, never mind that both them managers went on to have a dismal record at their next few clubs, or that both Chelsea and Leicester changed ownership in recent years and they've clearly not been well run since. My only concern about us changing managers too often is the complete lack of cohesion Sullivan has shown by continually swapping between managers who are hoofball merchants and those who prefer short passing possession based football. I just hope that Tim Steidten has been brought in to apply some long term vision to managerial appointments as well as player transfers."

Re: Would you offer Moyes a new contract?
It should be contingent on us getting out of the group stages (and further into the knock out rounds of the Europa League) and qualifying for Europe again. We are no longer settling for staying up. Oh and cup runs in League and FA Cup. We have a decent enough squad now to compete at all levels.
