Would you offer Moyes a new contract?

Post LJC »

"With David Moyes contract finishing at the end of the season and we fast approach the half way stage of the season, would you offer Moyes a new contract? (Might be worth doing as a WHO Poll). I personally wouldn’t, interesting to see Potter as huge favourite for our next manager and him turning down other roles (although could be waiting for England). Note Alonso sitting in the second favourite."

Moyes isn't fit to lace Ferguson's boots. Which was proven immediately when he went to manage Man Utd.

Vexed I‚Äôll ignore your stupid question as scott_d covered it very well for me. I mentioned also that Sir Alex Ferguson is generally still acknowledged as one of the finest club managers in the world yet in his 3rd season the fans wanted him out. They had 9 defeats and banners screamed for his sacking just before they hit good form and went on to win the FA Cup that season. Then he made Man Utd a massive success over many seasons. He was a massive cսnt to the fans then rather like Moyes‚Ķ If Moyes has another poor PL season he can expect to not get a new contract. If he does well again then he will most likely get a new contract. It‚Äôs not rocket science and I don‚Äôt care either way because I reckon Tim Steidten would make that decision so stop with all the childish insults. None of you have given credit for some quite positive and entertaining moments from the team at times. It shows Moyes is getting better. Paqueta and Emerson are terrific on the left and also Bowen and JWP are on fire plus there‚Äôs obviously camaraderie and good spirit in the team. How does that happen with such a useless manager according to self appointed critics that make themselves out to be knowledgeable after a life labouring or flipping burgers‚Ķ.

Oh definitely credit for his European campaigns - his starting lineups in those games have be mostly spot on. I just find it odd he seems to go back into his shell and sets us up so negatively in the League.

"Not disagreeing with anyone who doesn't like his attitude and/or style of play. I get that. Just adding some balance as he definitely deserves credit for what he has achieved, regardless of whether he stays or not."

Scott I agree with most of your post aside from the saving us from relegation bit. I’d still part ways with him though. I wanna enjoy the football i watch. Plus the game moves forward quickly and we’re being left behind. Might not see it now but it’ll eventually be a factor.

"I get the european mantra being wheeled out any time questions him, that's what kept him in a job last season. he's not a magician, he's spent close to half a billion pounds yet still playing like he has conference standard players. he writes off at least ten games a season where he doesn't think we can compete with the so called top five/six. we also have a better team this season, yet he's still telling them defend first. we also have arguably the best african player in the game, and he can't get a league start. I'd get rid of him today"

"I am not saying we SHOULD offer him a new contract (I'm on the fence), but to say that there is not a single argument as to why we should offer him a new contract is absurd. Kept the club in the Premier League after taking over from Pellegrini 6th in the League and qualified for Europa League in next season. Followed up with 7th in the League, Europa Semi Final, qualify for Europe again. 14th in the League, Win Europa Conference League, qualify for Europa League. First Major Trophy in 43 years. 3 consecutive seasons of European Football. Highest win% of any West Ham manager (except for Brooking who was in charge for just 14 games)."

I haven't heard a single good argument as to why we should keep Moyes or why someone else wouldn't have done just as well with the paltry 400m he's spent. Maybe instead of making a further cսnt of yourself Willtell you could offer up an actual cohesive argument as to why you think we should keep the 1990s dinosaur and underperformer David Moyes?

"if I gave a shit about trophies or league position I'd be supporting a different team. the players we have, there's no need to be as negative as this cսnt continues to be. extending his stay will guarantee early exits of any technically gifted player as his safety first style must be a nightmare to play in. that trophy win definitely highlighted how many glory hunters there are in the fan base"

"Value wise I believe we have the 8th most valuable squad in the PL. Transfer spend similar if not a bit higher. That should be the benchmark, somewhere between 6th and 9th. Last season wasn't good enough, this season is too early to say. If you're gonna play the way Moyes does then the results have to be good enough to cover the ugly nature of the football."

I suppose it’s about football philosophy and one’s expectations flowing from it; if you are focused on results you’ll be reasonably happy for the time being. At this rate though things may change very quickly for you as no results are guaranteed and Moyes’s capacity for proactive change is so limited.

Football at West Ham was once a craft where it was hit & miss if the result was great. Now it’s like a machine just punching out the product with little to enjoy…..I’m glad there are joyo type fans to ‘enjoy’ this type of set up as the club would struggle otherwise. One huge gain from having Moyes as manager is FOMO is no more….I was struggling with modern football anyways before Moyes & Allardyce and it’s over hyped bandwagon now I can sit back from it all and often enjoy seeing a good result.
