Post Coffee »

"OS West Ham United complete Nayef Aguerd transfer West Ham United are delighted to announce the signing of Morocco international defender Nayef Aguerd. The 26-year-old joins the Hammers from French Ligue 1 club Rennes on a five-year contract and adds further quality and depth to David Moyes‚Äô squad. He will wear the No27 shirt. Aguerd has enjoyed two impressive seasons with Rennes, enhancing the reputation he established at FUS Rabat, Dijon and with the Moroccan national team. Now, the left-sided player will continue his career in the English Premier League, where his combination of talents will see him provide strong competition for Craig Dawson, Issa Diop, Angelo Ogbonna and Kurt Zouma. ‚ÄúI was really excited when I heard about West Ham United's interest,‚Äù said Aguerd, an impressive individual who speaks fluent French, English, Arabic and Spanish. ‚ÄúWhen I heard about it, I knew I needed to go to the Premier League, because it‚Äôs a dream for every player. ‚ÄúWest Ham is a historic Club. I saw a few of their games this year, and I saw the fans and the atmosphere were fantastic, with the bubbles! ‚ÄúI talked with the manager and he showed me that he was very interested, so it was easy to choose to come to West Ham.‚Äù Aguerd was born in the city of K?©nitra in the north of Morocco into a footballing family. His father played in the Moroccan top-flight, while his uncle Abdelmajid Bouyboud was capped 34 times and appeared at the 1994 FIFA World Cup finals ‚Äì an achievement his nephew could emulate in Qatar later this year. As a boy, Aguerd represented local club KAC of K?©nitra before being scouted and recruited to the national Mohammed VI Football Academy in the capital city of Rabat, where he spent four years playing alongside the likes of Sevilla striker Youssef En-Nesyri. In 2014, aged 18, he joined leading club Rabat FUS, making 12 appearances in his debut season and attracting the attention of a host of leading Spanish clubs. After bulking up and working hard on his game, Aguerd then inspired FUS to their first-ever Moroccan Championship in May 2016, scoring a vital goal against Ittihad Tanger that all but clinched the title. After scoring in the 2017 CAF Champions League and impressing regularly for FUS over the next two seasons, Aguerd joined French Ligue 1 club Dijon in 2018. Two encouraging seasons for Les Rouges led to a transfer to Rennes, where he started the club‚Äôs first-ever UEFA Champions League match at home to Russian side Krasnodar and featured in four of six group-stage fixtures in the autumn of 2020. Aguerd has thrived at Roazhon Park, making 66 Ligue 1 appearances and helping Rennes qualify for Europe in each of the last two seasons. He scored twice in seven UEFA Europa Conference League appearances and started 31 Ligue 1 games as Rennes finished fourth last term. At international level, the defender was capped at U20 and U23 level before making his senior debut against Albania in August 2016. Two years later, he helped Morocco win the African Nations Championship on home turf. He is now a regular in the Atlas Lions‚Äô starting XI with 25 senior caps and was an ever-present in Morocco‚Äôs successful 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign and run to the 2021 CAF Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals. Everyone at West Ham United would like to welcome Nayef to London Stadium and wish him all the best for his career in Claret and Blue."

Barely had a run of games on his better side in a new league in a team that has had too many differing defence line ups.

"I don't think we can keep making excuses for players just because the manager is shit. This lad is making errors every single game, and is becoming a problem imo. Just doesn't look solid, and I don't think what he gives us passing wise is making up for it. We seemed to be the only show in town for his signature, which should have rang some bells. Newcastle signed Botman from the French league, another left footed centre back, and he looks on another level to this fella. Let's hope we see a huge improvement."

Aguerd is a quality defender having to stretch himself in the PL. He’s a quality player that will imo get much better with time.

I reckon that og may have knocked his confidence. Decent advice and coaching could have helped. There is also a pattern of good players turning shit this season.

"Looks shaky in pretty much every game, poor positioning and weak in the air, but he makes the odd good pass, lol. That's not to say I'm writing him off, but he's no rolls royce and needs to improve. Hopefully he does."

Is it too late to get our money back? We should've thrown £30mil at Dawson and begged him to stay.

"Johnson clearly more than culpable today. His ""Marking"" for the 2nd goal wouldn't be acceptable in an under 11 side But still the biggest culprit is moyes. Not sure you can pin this one on aguerd or benrahma."

"Seven goals conceded in the last two games with this ""rolls royce"" of a defender shoring up the back. Anyone still want to file his disaster showing at Old Trafford under a ""one off bad game""?"

"Maybe a disconnect with Arreola, perhaps Fabianski would have dealt with it but Aguerd had to go for that ball, unfortunate but a well delivered ball. I came away disappointed but a good performance on the night"

"paulon 12:00 Fri Mar 3 Re: Nayef Aguerd - signed (30m) Nick QQQ 7:19 Thu Mar 2 This 100%. A site full of needy attention seeking fuckwits looking to score points on the internet, most of them don’t give a fuck if West Ham lose - it’s all about points scoring over people they’ve never met or never will meet. How fucking pathetic is that? __ It's a West Ham supporters' forum. It's very purpose is for supporters of the club to opine about the club and the performance of the team. Having an opinion about a player that diverges from your opinion of them doesn't make them ""fucking pathetic"" or a ""needy attention seeking fuckwit"". In fact, I would suggest it is you who comes across as ""fucking pathetic"" and a ""needy attention seeking fuckwit"" by straying off topic to moan, abuse and ""score points"" against other forum members who hold opinions that differ from yours."

"Aguerd header cost us the game, as did his headless chicken interpretation after it. His own goal was worse than any chance Mickey fucked up. He seems to have a get out of jail free card because he’s decent, but it doesn’t mean the truth isn’t true."

"There was no excuse whatsoever sticking that header into his own net, fuck knows what he was thinking. It's not so much an autopsy, more like annoyance that it did change the game, at that point, regardless of whether we should have been two up or not. You can make excuses for him, it seems to be a WHO trait for some reason, that's up to you, I just see it as a major fuck up in a big game by a top rated defender. As said, let's hope he puts it behind him and get's back into ''rolls royce'' mode tomorrow."

Hold on if Antonio had taken the one on one opportunity we would have been 2-0 by the time of the own goal and no heads would have gone down….a fucking over the top autopsy on a player here to change the way we play whilst still new to English football and being played in his un-favoured side in another swapped around back line….

"We will never know of course, but I'm inclined to agree with BRANDED. It totally changed the game and our heads went. When you defend staunchly then end up putting one in your own net it's physiologically devastating as you have gifted it to them, instead of them earning it. It also clearly effected Aguerd afterwards, as he went on to make more fuck up's. So yes, game changing in my humble."
