Gianluca Scamacca Gone
"Taking to Twitter, the Italy international wrote: “Dear West Ham. “While my time in London didn’t go the way I had planned, some of my greatest life moments were made here. And for that I’m forever grateful Thank you to the players and staff for making me feel so welcome, and the fans for their continued support. “I will continue to support this fantastic club from home in Italy, and will be keeping in close touch with the lifelong friends I have made whilst in England Thank you for everything, Ciao.”"

Re: Gianluca Scamacca Signed
"Sir Alf 1:03 Exactly. I do think though, that barring Soucek probably, most of our players are definitely well capable with the ball at their feet (I mean, you can't tell me Rice and Paqueta aren't incredibly gifted with the ball, and several others are definitely proficient) But the key is overall gameplan. As you say, the low block makes it impossible, and the absolute lack of intelligent movement and doing this as a cohesive unit with a tactical goal in mind does the same. Compare us to the analysis of how Brentford and Brighton play- they know what they are doing as a unit all the time whereas we really do not seem to. They don't really have better players- just far better coached ones. Extreme example, but put De Bruyne in our midfield and he's going to look pretty disappointing and ineffective comparatively, with no one to pass the ball to and no time in which to do it most of the time. We've all seen what Paqueta can do when he's actually got time to do it. Far too often he's just not able to show it."

"Stubbo 1:32 Fri Jul 14 Re: Gianluca Scamacca Signed ""So we're all agreed he needs a second striker"" Errrr, no. What he needs is wide players to do the running in behind 100% correct. Bowen is fine on one side... need someone on the other to do the same. Its not Benrahma's game. Would have liked Harvey BARNES, but looks like he's off to Newcastle. Lucas MOURA is without a club...I might take him...although his love letter to those cunts is quite off-putting. Could arguably use Antonio there, given his expressed opinion that left wing is his preferred position - but not sure our left backs are good enough to cover for his lack of positional awareness and general stupidity"

Re: Gianluca Scamacca Signed
Pickle on football you don't quite get what a 4-4-2 is and on political threads you love to play the Lord Haw-Haw-2 routine.....
Re: Gianluca Scamacca Signed
"""So we're all agreed he needs a second striker"" Errrr, no. What he needs is wide players to do the running in behind. He will play as the fulcrum in attack, receiving the ball in the middle and laying it in behind either full back high up the pitch for our wide players to run on to, before he turns and heads to the penalty spot to receive the cut back from said wide players. What he can't be is a one man attack, like Antonio and Arnatovic were for Moyes, chasing a lost ball before turning and driving with dribbling ability at the heart of the opposition defence. If we keep playing that way, he's no good to us (as what you need is a one man battering ram). Franjly if that's all Moyes has got we'd be better off signing Adama Traore."

Re: Gianluca Scamacca Signed
"So I think we are all agreed that he needs to play with a second striker in a formation that suits the more technically gifted players available under instructions to pass, move and keep the ball. That will allow him to play his preferred game and score goals. Image how upsetting that would be for the Arsenal supporters who post on here."
Re: Gianluca Scamacca Signed
"Yeah, I don’t think Moyes, Nevin, Nolan, Warbarton or McKinley quite realized you need pace and movement and players drilled (via small pitch training games of 5 verses 3 etc.. which is called coaching apparently ) to make a possession game work. Movement as a team forward another critical requirement. Just trying to keep the ball better while keeping the low and mid block formation with players who mostly lack pace, don’t move and several who can’t pass that well ( Soucek, Antonio especially and also Coufal, Zouma and Benrahma although the latter was more decision making ) and it meant we gave it away very quickly and reverted to hitting long or high to Scamacca as if he was a target man or left him isolated with no one moving near him. In short we didn’t have the type of player, or coaching knowledge and didn’t implement correctly anyway. ?"

Re: Gianluca Scamacca Signed
You can put some of that down to the coaching and training as well. Most of our players are well capable of this. So much of it is about movement and creating space for players to have time to move the ball around. That's tactical basics that is down to the coaching staff. No team can play expansive or even good football when they aren't moving and creating any space whatsoever.

Re: Gianluca Scamacca Signed
"'Unless the club have been buying up morons & muppets over the last few years, the players will easily adapt to different styles as required.' Except our players did not did they? We tried to play a more possession based game first half of last season and Moyes ended up dropping the idea altogether once we were firmly in the shit. He wont try and change our style of play again and he definitely wont do it to try and accommodate Scammaca. If a decent offer comes in for him (even if less than what he came in for) they will let him leave."

Re: Gianluca Scamacca Signed
Like Haller he was being asked to play as an isolated front man against 3 defenders with everyone else cowering on the halfway line and beyond. He just needs to play in a 4-3-3 with Bowen and A.N Other (ideally someone like Barnes) either side UP THE PITCH with a midfield on the front foot. Said before I'd challenge Haaland to play centre forward in a Moyes team structure

Maggot and Pickle 6:49 Thu Jul 13 Re: Gianluca Scamacca Signed So pretty much needs a 442 and is pretty much incompatible with Soucek. Whaddayknow? What you know is the square root of fuck all. Kane/spurs don’t play 442. Neither did Sassuolo when Scamacca was there. Neither do Italy. Football is not for you.

Re: Gianluca Scamacca Signed
"To make Scamacca work we need pace on the flanks, and a central midfielder that runs beyind the striker. Scamacca will then receive, lay off, and arrive at the edge of the box for a pull back. With the way Moyes plays, he'd be better off as the Fellaini #10 role. Chasing long balls and hassling fullbacks is clearly not his forte."

Re: Gianluca Scamacca Signed
Why sell him at a loss... Worth at least 40million in today's market... Rehab him ..play him properly...get top money...or keep him... That's Moyes' job... But of course he can't or won't...
Re: Gianluca Scamacca Signed
I swear Gonzo was saying today that Scamacca would love a move to Syria

Re: Gianluca Scamacca Signed
"Deal canvey That’s why I’m saying he will have no choice. He doesn’t really have the personnel. Even though we changed the way we played and went back to our old counter attack style it still didn’t massively change our performances. Take rice out of that. And a knackered Antonio that barely scores goals anymore and he will have no choice. He’s going to have to build a team around the younger, better striker. And that can’t be counter attack. In fact he’ll have two highly paid strikers that can’t play counter attack. He can’t do it. That’s why I’m surprised he’s staying on. He’s mad not to go to Celtic. Unless he seriously gets in a coach that can help him change he’ll be gone in a few months."

"dealcanvey 11:40 Wed Jul 12 ""...We know it works..."", as our league position last season clearly demonstrates. Antonio should only ever be used in European games, if at all, where the opposition have much less experience defending against someone of his style. Unless the club have been buying up morons & muppets over the last few years, the players will easily adapt to different styles as required."
