"Broadcasters will never go after individuals, it's almost impossible, it's not cost effective (the cost of it far outweighs the prosecutions that succeed) and it's counter productive for Sky to prosecute a disabled grandad who wants to watch the footie because it's his only friend. The negative publicity of that would be hugely damaging, even if they have the law on their side."

"From the Mirror... `Streaming pirated content counts as a civil offence rather than criminal one, meaning you'll only get in trouble if the copyright holder decides to sue you, but it may change the way many people think about streaming`. errrrr..... Naaaaaaaah"

Thing is.... if the go for the original source stream and block that... then you can have all the VPN's in the world it's not going to make a blind bit of difference.... the authorities will always go for the streaming source rather than the individual... that has got to be almost impossible to police surely?

"As for EU law...I believe I read the plan is for the UK to systematically adopt all EU law as UK law, meaning that withdrawal just means we're the highest court ruling on interpretation, but that this is the only way to ensure that leaving in the EU in the time frame specified doesn't throw up all manner of legal contradictions on day 1 post-EU. Once in that position, individual laws can be addressed or repealed as they are deemed worth of that scrutiny."

"Whether it's illegal or not, copyright infringement is a civil crime, and relies on the infringed targetting the infringer directly. It's not cost effective to prosecute each individual, and thus the main way that these services will be shut down is by targeting the websites and the services that make the content available (as was the case when dealing with torrents and file sharing). VPN use is a good idea no matter how you look at it though...internet privacy is a borderline misnoma these days, and whilst you might have ""nothing to hide"" that is hardly the point. Right to privacy (not to be systematically monitored) is a key freedom and thus use of a VPN (which is not expensive and relatively easy to achieve) is something all should consider whether streaming or not."

"Spandex Sidney 11:29 Fri Apr 28 ""The fact is streaming is not illegal, no matter how they paint it."" Unfortunately Sydney, this week's ruling from the European Court of Justice is saying that streaming IS illegal. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Having determined that such piracy-configured players can be considered infringing by EU member courts, the ECJ goes on to provide greater clarity on the status of copyrighted content streamed on the Internet without copyright holders’ permission. The ECJ states that reproduction of content may only be exempt from reproduction rights when it fulfils five conditions: – When the act is temporary – When it’s transient or incidental – When it’s an integral and essential part of a technological process – When the sole purpose of that process is to enable a transmission in a network between third parties by an intermediary or a lawful use of a work or protected subject matter – The act has no independent economic significance Since copyrighted works are obtained from streaming websites without obtaining permission from copyright holders, the above standards are not completely met and no copyright exceptions are available. Streaming copyrighted content from an illicit source can therefore be considered illegal. --------------------------------------------- Get yer VPNs out boys and girls."

"Agree with all of that. My concern is that on the latest version of Kodi 17.1 you have to go into settings and set a field to 'allow' external apps. Can't be too long surely before the film,tv and sport lobbyists say don't allow that option just set the code to 'not allow' Then no addons and the greatest bit of home entertainment ever developed is fucked!"

Is this the end for Kodi? European court rules 'fully loaded' boxes ARE illegal Kodi is a free service that streams apps and on-demand services onto your TV Many of the plug-ins offered host illegal streaming services for films and shows Amazon and the Premier League have both issued crackdowns in recent months EU ruling could spell the end for sales of these 'fully loaded' Kodi boxes Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-4452728/European-court-rules-fully-loaded-Kodi-boxes-illegal.html#ixzz4fWr8i74q Follow us: @MailOnline on Twitter | DailyMail on Facebook

"Normally, when you connect to the internet you first connect to your Internet Service Provider (ISP), which then connects you to any websites (or other internet resources) that you wish to visit. All your internet traffic passes through your ISPÔø?s servers, and can be viewed by your ISP. When using VPN you connect to a server run by your VPN provider (a Ôø?VPN serverÔø?) via an encrypted connection (sometimes referred to as a Ôø?VPN tunnelÔø?). This means that all data traveling between your computer and the VPN server is encrypted so that only you and the VPN server can Ôø?seeÔø? it."

"I still don't really see the point of a VPN on a streaming box? If Sky/BT, etc are gonna choke 'illegal' streams then surely you need the VPN on your actual router? Otherwise they could still stop the stream to the router as the IP is only hidden on the actual device? Sorry if I have misunderstood how these work"

My firestick has started saying that I've run out of space - only 180MB left and I've got 1.67GB of data on Kodi I didn't think anything got saved to the internal memory of the firestick because everything was streamed anyone know how to clear it without deleting wookie

"Gentile 11:00 ~ For what it's worth, I use ""Private Internet Access"" which costs about half of that It's installed on my 2 Mx boxes, 2 tablets & 2 pcs (though I rarely have it running on my pcs) I would recommend it (& it seemed to have the best reviews for VPNs when I researched it)"
