Arriving at Leverkusen from Werder Bremen in June 2019, Steidten was responsible for overseeing a pivotal period in the Club’s history, with his data-led approach to scouting yielding some immediate positive results in the transfer market, recruiting a number of unheralded gems, before nurturing them into highly-coveted stars. His arrival is set to complement the strong existing UEFA Europa Conference League winning squad on and off the pitch, with further significant experience and expertise. It seems incredible to me that after years of blaming Sullivan for making poor signings we now blame Moyes entirely. HammersChat have made the point that Moyes 1st choices were Nunez and Broja for striker but we got Scamacca. Raphina and Phillips from Leeds then when that failed Onana who got a better offer from Everton. We ended up with a Brazilian creative that Moyes was surprised to find out was a DM. Plus we’ve signed 2 strikers that didn’t suit Moyes game plan and a left wingback as our LB’s successor. Seems to me it has Sullivan’s fingerprints all over the last windows. Might also be why Sullivan didn’t sack Moyes earlier this year if it’s Sullivan’s fault we have poorly planned squad…

"It's well known that Moyes insists on having the final say on transfers, and he's admitted to ignoring recommendations from Newman (eg Julian Alvarez), so I don't know why anyone would need to ask where the responsibility lies. You might blame Newman for Paqueta and Scamacca, who really don't fit in with the way Moyes likes to play, but I could see that from watching 10 minute clips of them both before they came, so I don't see how Moyes couldn't. Seems more likely that they were bought because Moyes wanted to play a different way, as the counter-attacking style was no longer working, but in the end he didn't know how to change things up. Would be interesting to know if Newman is actually involved in transfer fee and player salary negotiations, because I don't think he did a great job there, if so."

"Be good to see a Job Description. Who has been responsible for recruitment this past twelve months, Moyes, Newman or the master manipulator sullivan? If the latter and he intends to remain then little point in bringing anyone else in but certainly get shot of Newman who failed whatever his role was. "A director of football and a sporting director are basically the same thing under different titles and both mainly oversee the transfers process. According to the article Rob Newman is leaving. It seems him and Moyes have a very good relationship but unfortunately fucked up the transfers in the summer. It seems that the director of football will be coming in to help nurture Noble as, although he has settled well, he is inexperienced. Noble is by all accounts going to be more involved in the youth set up. This would all indicate that responsibility for transfers is being taken away from Moyes and I guess we have to wait to see if that means he is on his way out or will retract one of his conditions for coming back."
