Tim Steidten - Confirmed
"OS Tim Steidten appointed West Ham United Technical Director West Ham United is delighted to announce the appointment of Tim Steidten as the Club’s Technical Director. Steidten will be responsible for the Club's overarching player recruitment strategy and scouting department, working closely with Manager David Moyes and Sporting Director Mark Noble. The Technical Director role has been implemented as part of the Club’s continued growth strategy and comes at a key moment in West Ham United’s history, with the Hammers’ victory in the UEFA Europa Conference League earlier this month securing a third successive season in European competition. One of the game’s most-admired football administrators, 44-year-old Steidten brings his own added experience of European football to East London, having previously fulfilled a similar role with Bayer 04 Leverkusen in his native Germany, at a time when the Hammers are enjoying a sustained period of success at both first team and Academy level. Arriving at Leverkusen from Werder Bremen in June 2019, Steidten was responsible for overseeing a pivotal period in the Club’s history, with his data-led approach to scouting yielding some immediate positive results in the transfer market, recruiting a number of unheralded gems, before nurturing them into highly-coveted stars. His arrival is set to complement the strong existing UEFA Europa Conference League winning squad on and off the pitch, with further significant experience and expertise. Moyes said: “On behalf of everyone at the Club, I would like to welcome Tim to the West Ham United family. He has a strong track record in elite level football and we’re really looking forward to working with him.” Joint-Chair David Sullivan said: “Our goal when we became custodians of West Ham United and moved to London Stadium was to bring silverware to this incredible Club and to regularly compete in European football. We’ve enjoyed some fantastic times in recent seasons, and we aim to continue to grow and evolve across all areas of the Club. Tim’s appointment is key to our wider plans to drive our football strategy forward. We are delighted to welcome such a well-respected name in the game to the Club.” Steidten said: “I am extremely proud to be joining West Ham United, at such an exciting time in this Club’s incredible history. Building on the Club’s recent European success, there is already a fantastic team in place, but also so much ambition – from the Board, the Manager, his staff and the players – to continue succeeding, developing and growing. I cannot wait to play a key part in that. Come on you Irons!”"

"No I haven’t missed that, but the fdofference is Moyes at least had the final say on what was happening, now there will be someone else telling him to do something he can’t do. Mans I think it is an apt comparison. Bringing in a GM who doesn’t pick his own coach who isn’t on board with his vision for the team very rarely results in anything other than abject failure"

"yes, but you seem to have missed that he's not on the same page as anyone. it's not a good comparison, as most nfl locker rooms are pushing for the same thing. that cսnt isn't open (as warburton explained) to any help or advice, so if the introduction of this new home speeds up him fucking off, great"

The manager being at odds with the technical director. It will make everything worse than it already is. As an NFL follower you know what a recipe for disaster it is when the GM and coach aren’t on the same page.

"what more friction do you think can occur? you had the assistant manager suddenly quit, the captain fuck off after lifting our first trophy for 43 years and then rumours a couple of days ago about paqueta being sick of the football we play. there's one common denominator with all these people"

It’s silly. It’s just going to cause friction and to the detriment of the team and results. If they are doing this they should have cleaned house at the same time. As it is I bet we will be scrabbling around for a manager in 6-8 months time.

"this isn't another glorified scout like rob newman, moyes now reports to him. he either adapts or will be gone very soon"
"Re: Director of football, anyone? - Looks like it's Tim Steidten"
"A complete & utter waste of time whilst Moyes is still there. Moyes won't allow him to do anything other than comply with Moyesball. Until Moyes is sacked, we'll stagnate or get worse. Simple as that."

"I really hope so, but better suited for what is the question, and also my point. Better suited for Moyesball? Which is really bad long term, or better suited for football? Which is really bad short term."

Warburton was part the problem last season he left so he and Moyes didn't fallout. I am not a fan of Moyes at all . Let's see if we get better suited players than last summer

"You know what i mean. Moyes will want a Soucek or Antonio type of player. What’s the point in doing in depth interviews and analysis of players if they are just going to be told ‘right, get behind the ball at all times and defend. Run around a lot and if you do get the ball look to punt it long to Antonio or Bowen.’ Unless Moyes has a massive change of philosophy I just don’t see the point. Even if we are unearthing Mitomas and players, they aren’t going to get used properly if at all- like half our signings from the last two seasons. I’d love a TD or DOF like him if we had a manager that wanted to play football and at the end of the day if he’s working for Moyes and not running the whole show it still doesn’t solve the old problem of Sullivan getting his sticky mitts in and torpedoing or pushing deals through. My prediction is however good this guy is, he’s here for not long unless Sullivan and or Moyes depart because he’s going to quickly suss that what he’s doing makes no impact at all."

Moyes interviewed him. This new bloke can do the in depth reviews before we buy another Vlasic..I wouldn't call Paqueta a clogger. Newman is out of the picture after last summers fuck up with transfers

"Westham67 3:33 That’s as maybe. But is he going to have to be on the same page as Moyes about what players we want? Hard running cloggers who are willing to defend defend with no possession, if so then we’re going simply reinforce the anti football ethos, and make it even more difficult to change when Moyes leaves, or is he going to be recommending players who are good footballers but the manager has no intention or understanding of using properly? Either option doesn’t exactly fill one with confidence. Hoping for the best but expecting the worst."

I would imagine the first order of business is identifying our next manager.? He’s already got enough players coming out of his hard drive too keep us up and ticking over.

He is a data man and brought in to stop us (Moyes and Sullivan) wasting money on transfers
