Capitol Man 1:37 Tue Nov 7 Was Israel only supposed to respond and kill the same amount of women and children that Hamas did? Rape the same amount and kidnap the same amount? Behead and burn alive the same amount? The term proportionality is never used in any other conflict just this one.

"Texas Iron 7:36 Tue Nov 7 So rack up some practical solutions that allow Israel to get rid of the threat from Hamas. No ""They should do this"", or ""They shouldn't do that"" weaselling - just how they actually eliminate the threat Hamas poses. They stop, Hamas regroups/rearms and (can) continue their self-proclaimed campaign to wipe Israel from the face of the earth. A line, however unpleasant, needs to be drawn under this episode once and for all. Of course Gazaians could start grassing up Hamas fighters to Israel - why is that not considered as a potential solution?"

What is the ratio of dead Palestinians to dead Israelis that’s an acceptable response? 10-to-1? 20? 100?

"Thanks Joyo. Capitol No I don't think what Israel are doing will make the people turn on Hamas. Even if the people wanted to turn on Hamas I am guessing they don't have the means to. Which is why I am supportive of Israel killing and attacking Hamas operatives. With the priority also being rescuing the hostages and reducing the civilian casualties as much as possible. If the Palistinian people do not want peace then Israel cannot force it on them. If they choose to attack Israel and do not accept its right to exist then this will just continue happening. Not sure what else Israel should or can do. What do you think? I don't think I implied forcing them into submission by killing them from my last post. What made you think that? I think it is more important other Arab states put pressure on Palistinians to keep the peace then the west or Israel. This is why the peace deals are so important for the region and Irans influence is reduced. I am hopeful that the Iranian regime will be overthrown in my lifetime though. I see videos of unrest over there on social media, but it's difficult to know if it's true or not."

"The Fonz 11:14 Mon Nov 6 Re: Hamas attack Israel Do you not think it's naive in the extreme to think that being slaughtered by Israelis will make them turn on Hamas. This is not the first Rodeo here and despite the experience of post-WW2 Germany this has never worked in the Middle East. Nazism was also not a religion. Paragraph 2 - again, bit of wishful thinking there that you can kill enough Palestinians to force them into submission. Even if they pretend that has happened in the short-term, you've got a couple of million people in Gaza alone that have lost, children, fathers, brothers sisters at the hands of Israel. There's a chance of a reconciliation as I think much of the region does see Iran and the Russian alliance as a bigger threat. Again there's a chance, but absolutely right that it depends on how long this goes on for. Iran seems to have what it wants and isn't pushing for wider war, at this stage"

"Capitol Man 8:06 Mon Nov 6 Is it even possible to dismantle Hamas, or are they just creating the next generation of fighters, making Israel a global pariah? - I think this depends on the attitude of the Palestinian people in Gaza and whether they want to continue in the path that has led them to this moment. Getting rid of Hamas is possible, as was getting rid of Nazi Germany and the ideologies that were wide-spread back then. However, if Hamas is more then x amount of fighters/supporters and instead an 'ideology' that the people of Gaza buy into and believe, then Hamas will never be dismantled and instead just take a new form. If the people choose to vote in the 'new Hamas' as their representatives then that's down to them and they need to take responsibility for their own actions. If they don't then with the correct support and investment from the world, which we have seen is happy to donate huge amounts to the Palestinian cause, they should be able to build their economy, increase their living conditions and move on with their lives in peace. I do think that any money that is provided should be given on a conditional/incentive basis, i.e. the leaders of Gaza will get access to the funds should certain measures be made, like property rights, healthcare and education standards, women rights, not firing rockets into Israel. This is to ensure that money does not fall in the wrong hands and the people are actually benefitting from it - which is definitely questionable right now. This is not my idea this is something I heard whilst listening to Jared Kushner on Lex Fridman's podcast which I recommend to anyone interested in the conflict to get a different opinion. In regards to Israel being a global pariah, I actually am quite hopeful that there will be peace in the near future. I think we got a quick view of that with the Abraham Accords and the peace deals with the UAE, Bahrain, Sudan, Morocco and the near deal with Saudi Arabia. You also have to look at how peace for Israel has continued with Jordan and Egypt despite multiple wars / conflicts between Israel and the Palestinian people. From Iran's point of view this attack is doing everything it hoped for. - Agreed, it definitely is for now. But once the war stops then let's see what happens. The hope is that something good can come out of this war and I still think a peace deal with Israel and Saudi Arabia will happen which will be monumental for the region. Maybe it will bring the two state solution negotiations back to the table as well, which has to be the goal for both sides. At the demonstration I went to yesterday, one of the speakers was one of the leaders of the Free Iran Movement. She summed it up that Iran are both holding her country hostage but also the people of Gaza. Their influence needs to be challenged and stopped. It is no shock that the other Iran backed terrorist groups with the Houthi's in Yemen and Hezbollah in Lebanon are attacking Israel. There will be no peace in the Middle East whilst the Islamic Republic of Iran openly say they want to wipe Israel off the map and are funding terrorist organisations around the world to create instability and conflict. Bibi - needs to go, complete agreement with you on that!"

"As the IDF sweep south trying to cleanse Gaza of Hamas, they are going to need to rebuild the north that they have flattened to allow civilians back to live in their home town. No doubt such a rebuild will be riddled with sensors & monitors to pick up and future tunnel building activity, but an olive branch of better accommodation that the people had before may go some way to breaking the circle of violence. There may need to be an outside organisation managing the enclave though."

"“According to the news Gaza has run out of fuel, water, electricity, food etc... but they have't run out of rockets. Plenty of them still being fired into Israel daily.” This is of course a clumsy lie. Why discredit yourself in such an inept manner?"
