General Election - July 2024

Post twoleftfeet »

This appears to be the rumour on Sky. An easy win for Starmer and some big names losing their seats. The Country needs a change but is it going to get one? The thought of seeing that annoying Beth Rigby for 6 weeks though is a horrifying thought.

"goose, This interests me. Is it Immigration (figures on growth of population and the cost and/or benefits) or the perceived threat of Immigration (Created to provide a reason for people that cannot get work or are in poverty, or cannot buy a home who feel angry and it gives them something to be angry at) Where can I get independant figures?"

"So immigration is an important topic, possibly the most important. Reform aside I’ve not seen any party recognise this or have a proper plan for it."

"goose, immigration innit, the Tories have overseen the highest growth of it recent history, despite us having our borders back and Rishi 'stopping the boats'. But it suits people to blame Labour so, it's Labours fault, there you go, I said it. *Makes cup of tea, scratches nuts and prepares for afternoon of snoozing and tennis*"

"because Sven assumed that people in that industry will just pay more tax and suffer it. they'll go where the money is, and they are already making those moves. fund mgt and financial services employ about 400k people in the UK. banking is about 350k people."

Ray - if the birth rate (and population growth) is flat amongst british citizens........... why do we need to keep building millions of new houses?

"ED, well all those hard working people who have done well for themselves maybe shouldn't voted in a party for the last 14 years that has already shafted them, royally. You make it out that I think Labour have all the answers, I don't, no one does but to keep spouting the same old bollocks about culture wars and immigrants is risible, straight out of the 2016 project fear handbook. *Lays back on sofa, switches on Wimbledon and awaits Giro cheque to hit the carpet*"

"Unlike you Ray, I've read everyone's manifesto. New British energy company, the catastrophic green pledges, their NHS pledges, their housing pledges, all the millions of new people every year that will be welcomed in (hence what those million new houses will mostly be used for) where's all that money going to come from? The extra fees for private schools (will affect those trying to beter themselves and their kids, not the rich). That's all just for starters. Those things need changing, not more money thrown at them hoping things improve. And that's without all the culture war shit that will now be a thousand times worse. As I say, it won't affect people like you. It will affect the pockets of the people that prop up the country, work hard, and have done well from themselves. You won't give a shit, but they will."

"The votes at 16 thing may well backfire for Labour. According to a couple of surveys I've read recently 16-18 year-old girls are fixing to vote Green and the boys will all vote Reform. It has probably dawned on any working-class, straight, white lad with an IQ higher than a Heinz bottle that none of the other parties wants to help them and most want actively to do them harm."

"Thats what I am saying Even if bankers are asked to pay a bit more tax they wont suffer and they certainly wont leave London Given people on low to moderate incomes have been screwed by the freezing of tax thresholds I am not sure how this lot will make it worse for Mr & Mrs Average My only concern is if they follow through on their promise to wind back the pension contribution amount of £60,000 that the Tories introduced Its a boon for higher rate taxpayers but it does encourage people to provide for their own pension needs"

"Things will be absolutely no different for people on that level, Sven. You clearly haven't got a clue how things work up there in the upper echelons. The people that will be effected the most, as always, is normal people with normal jobs, especially those that have done well enough for themselves. You know, GAMMONS, those that prop up the country that have somehow become hate figures. They've been shafted by the current lot, but it's nothing compared to what's coming. Everything will become obvious before long, and then the proper fightback will take place."

"We always hear that all these wealthy bankers will leave the country and go and work in Frankfurt WILL THEY FUCK Would like to be a fly on the wall when Utter Banker tells Missus Utter Banker that she needs to give up her West London mansion , charge account at Harrods, take the kids out of school and pitch up in some dismal German metropolis"

"I think some feathers are going to be ruffled. Kier'll Fix It For You Starmer is obviously getting in, by I reckon there will be a new main opposition. Once normal working people who have done alright for themselves realise how hard they're getting hit over the next 5 years, it'll be a landslide next time for Uncle Nige."

"Think they'll be be introducing measures/laws as highlighted in the Brown document that will make it very difficult to vote them out. Vote at 16 but don't try to buy a firework. Think I'm at the point where I really don't care anymore, it's all one big game where those rigging it are the winners and the ordinary folk are not important to them. Just enjoy every day as much as you can, we can never get a yesterday back."
