General Election - July 2024
This appears to be the rumour on Sky. An easy win for Starmer and some big names losing their seats. The Country needs a change but is it going to get one? The thought of seeing that annoying Beth Rigby for 6 weeks though is a horrifying thought.

Re: General Election - July 2024
Who would want to be leader of the Tory party right now? Anyone serious will surely wait til if/when the party gets off its knees.

"It's doubtless that the Tory's had to go, got no argument with that. But if anyone thinks our way of living and society in general will improve, I think the're in for a shock. Oliver Robinson and Sue Frost will be very big players behind the scenes while Rachael Reeves's biggest influence is a woman who is a keen enthusiast of the Chinese and North Korean way of dealing with national finances."

Re: General Election - July 2024
"I would have liked to have seen Reform get more seats, they may not be my cup of tea bu this Country needs broader margins on the Right and Left. The percentage numbers of votes per party also strongly suggest that people did not want Conservatives, rather than people wanted Labour. Because of this they haven't got a compelling mandate, because of this, there will be impatience with them and the Country will be as unhappy with them and under them as they were with the Conservatives. Head down and focus on My House, My Family."
Re: General Election - July 2024
"Definitely a case of get the Tories out rather than we want Labour in. Poor turn out though, surely it's time to have another box to tick, ""None of the above because you are all as bad as each other!"""

Re: General Election - July 2024
"Was a lot closer than I expected, to be honest, but still has the feel of ""Get the Torys out at any cost"" rather than ""Get Labour in for improvement"", to me. Note that Starmer has been riding on a ticket of ""Change"", not ""Improvement"". Two very different things but easily conflated by carelessly wishing simpletons."

Re: General Election - July 2024
"Labour win 35% of the popular vote, but get 63% of the seats. Reform get 15% of the popular vote, but get less than 1% of the seats. We certainly do not live in a democracy under this mental electoral system."
Re: General Election - July 2024
hold on to your seats the left is in. out in town with the family or grandkids ? escort them to the toilets at all times as you don't want them bumping into a blokes in knickers in the female toilets pleading they are a sissy lady and they have every right to be there by law now .

Re: General Election - July 2024
"Reform get more votes than the Lib Dems yet the former get only 4 MPs and the latter get 71. What a joke FPTP is. Still, at least Reform broke through and won four seats. Will be entertaining to see Farage in Parliament calling out Labour and the Tories."

Re: General Election - July 2024
My local Tory mp somehow managed to secure an increased majority of 11680. He was available at 4/1 to retain the seat yesterday.

Re: General Election - July 2024
"It's happened, the gen Z 'never experienced a Labour government' crew and northerners have had their way and ushered in a new paradigm of taxation and ritual book burning. They don't care, gen z and northerner don't care about tax because they dont pay any! You'd have to have a job to do that. God help anyone that has read a book in their life or looked after your financial future, you are now the ENEMY. You have to chuckle at these reform clowns though, they hate immigration but Nigel Farage has already said they have no chance of getting in - the logical vote if you are really worried about immigrants stealing your lunch was surely to vote Conservative but they all went our in their union jack shorts in the rain and voted Reform which has ironically aided a Labour win, Labour who welcome immigration with open arms. Hopefully Wet Keir will house them all in fucking Clacton. The only solace I can take from such a disastrous election is the sad fucking faces of these Tory pricks that have now get a job, I hope to see Liz Truss and other assorted incompetents delivering my fucking shopping in the coming months. Imagine losing to Keir fucking Starmer. Here's to two years of blaming tory hangover and general excuse making followed by savage taxation but lots of schemes to get out of work vegan lesbians back into the theatre. Great stuff Britain."

Re: General Election - July 2024
"""Mainly anti Conservative vote rather than pro Labour"" Not entirely true. Labour stayed flat in England. Their vote collapsed in Wales (the one place they actually ran), they're only up 1.5% because of a rise in Scotland where the SNP flopped. In short, a wholesale rejection of the governments of each country, which just goes to show how shit the options were. The fact that labour got 5% less of the vote share than Corbyn in 2017 is telling. As for the cons, got exactly what they deserved. Voters left them for reform. Hopefully over the next cycle we'll actually see a return to the politics of both sides. If not, reform will continue to rise and that isn't necessarily a great thing."
