Lopetegui (sacked 8.1.2025)
I was thoroughly looking forward to the start of this season
Was also prepared that things might take some time and wasn't expecting miracles over night What I didn't expect was a manager who after spending 6 weeks with the total dross he'd been left by Moyes would deem them fit to start in a premier league game And low and behold all of them played absolute shit
We're now 1 game in and none of our new players are any closer to bedding in or learning anything from their new team mates cos they barely spent a second on the pitch, half of them not at all I think it's gonna take somewhere between 6-10 games before we see the team anyone with an ounce of sense would play cos this bloke can't identify shit when he see's it I thought we was handed a miracle at half time when we went in level and low and behold he changed nothing I'm sure people are gonna make excuses for him and say it's too early to judge
But from what I've just seen today, this cսnt is David Moyes in a mission impossible mask

Re: Lopetegui
"I think we will know the true cut of his gib come Saturday If he starts with Coufal, Mavropanos and Antonio, then I think we are in for a long season He surely must show he understands that these 3 are not good enough I also think he has a blind spot for Souceck, he will be starting....sighs"

Re: Lopetegui
"If you knew anything about man management - you would appreciate it's very difficult to just go in and drop the likes of Coufal/ Soucek straight off the bat. I'm Soucek's biggest critic - I just view it as the manager giving him the opportunity to play his way out of the team. Mavropanos has played all pre-season - so again, he's probably gone with familiarity rather than dropping Todibo straight in. It will be a gradual process - We all know the starting lineup will eventually be; Areola Wan Bissaka Todibo Kilman Emerson Rodriguez Alvarez Pacqueta Kudus Fullkrug Bowen It will come - I'm prepared to give them time - I was vociferous in wanting change and even view having more possession as a positive. Villa are a good side with probably, pound for pound the best manager in the league."

"I'll reserve 'real' judgement for now, but I'm wondering what the point of Rodriguez is, he looks like a backwards/sideways carthorse to me with zero pace, so what's the fucking point? Surely Potts can do at least that??"

Re: Lopetegui
"Most teams seem to exceed the sum of their parts, we are the opposite… we have some fantastic players but the team as a whole underachieves. Under Moyes it was because all of our best players were attackers and Moyes had little interest in that side of the game. Hopefully JL will prove to be different and certainly needs a couple of months before any judgement can be reached."

Re: Lopetegui
"The thing is, under Moyes I never felt the squad was shit. I thought the manager was shit (or became shit). There are internationals all over the place in last years squad. Moyes managed a top half finish and a European cup win with most of that squad. I just think Moyes lacks the tactical nous and bravery to be a really great manager. And he’s ego is just too much for this type of job where you need input from people. You can’t be right all the time. So I just think the change maybe needs to be evolutionary rather than get rid of 6 or 7 players and start a fresh. I trust that Lopetegui knows what he’s doing. From a track record point of view there aren’t many managers in the league with his CV. I don’t think he’s a fraud. Just got to give him time."

Re: Lopetegui
"""We‚Äôre now 1 game in and none of our new players are any closer to bedding in or learning anything from their new team mates cos they barely spent a second on the pitch, half of them not at all"" Given Rodriguez and Kilman started - and Fullkrug and Summerville came out at 73 minutes - this is quite obviously nonsense. You can make the point you want to make without the hyperbole. I think he left the Fullkrug and Summerville subs too late and I was disappointed Antonio started but everything else was defensible. Give the bloke a minute before calling him a cսnt maybe?"

Re: Lopetegui
"If we won yesterday I’d actually think it was a fluke tbh. We need massive change and it’s going to take a while to embed the mindset of that change. It doesn’t matter if we bought 11 internationals in, there is work to be done. I’m not sure what everyone expects? This isn’t a computer game. I’ve seen Koop, Arteta, Pep etc all take a while to get shit working. Why would we be any different?"

Re: Lopetegui
Lopetegui a bad manager. FfS no wonder our fanbase are the number one whipping boys for the media . He's won the Europa league. Was unbeaten in 20 games as Spain's national manager including a 6 0 win against the argies . Took over second bottom wolves just after Xmas 2022 yet still finished ahead of us . In the form table in the last 4 months were 8th . Some supporters don't realise the mess Moyes left behind. Signing JWP ahead of forfana says it all .

"Shit, I stand corrected goose I’ll put my hands up and admit I was wrong Turns out in the last 2 seasons in the premier league Antonio has been averaging a goal in every 5.36 games I had absolutely no idea he was that prolific"

Re: Lopetegui
"Remind me of his awesome strike rate since he started playing up front Don’t include any goals from when he played on the wing, cos that’s not what we’re talking about"
