Lopetegui (sacked 8.1.2025)
I was thoroughly looking forward to the start of this season
Was also prepared that things might take some time and wasn't expecting miracles over night What I didn't expect was a manager who after spending 6 weeks with the total dross he'd been left by Moyes would deem them fit to start in a premier league game And low and behold all of them played absolute shit
We're now 1 game in and none of our new players are any closer to bedding in or learning anything from their new team mates cos they barely spent a second on the pitch, half of them not at all I think it's gonna take somewhere between 6-10 games before we see the team anyone with an ounce of sense would play cos this bloke can't identify shit when he see's it I thought we was handed a miracle at half time when we went in level and low and behold he changed nothing I'm sure people are gonna make excuses for him and say it's too early to judge
But from what I've just seen today, this cսnt is David Moyes in a mission impossible mask

Re: Lopetegui
"Jaan Kenbrovin 1:48 Thu Aug 22 Seems to me like you are just as happy for him to be a failure as you are a success. If it’s the former, you get the trot out the old “said from the start..” to show how knowledgable you are. Jury is out, as it would be any new manager, but why don’t we judge him after 10 games rather than 1 against last seasons fourth placed team? If he’s a De Boer, I’m sure he’ll be gone and all the anti-appointment brigade can jump onto their “told you so” pedestals. The downside on that is Sulli will almost certainly go cap in hand back to Moyes again, so let’s just hope he’s a success on that basis alone, shall we?"
Re: Lopetegui
"As with Moyes, Pellegrini etc, I think you have to give him until Xmas before making an assessment unless we go on a 8 game losing run and these days that means being shown the exit door. I was, like many, a bit underwhelmed with the selections and lack of change in the Villa game but can understand why he perhaps is taking a revolutionary not evolutionary approach by allowing the “old guard”’a chance to stake a starting birth especially as a lot of the additiins have only been training with the club in one or two sessions? On the other hand, what is he seeing in Soucek? He’s a barometre for me. Once he stops starting I will believe there is progression happening and the squad is committed to playing with the ball not relying on counters and long ball in the same old direct style. Lets see who else we get in too as we are a player short in centre midfield imo, up front ( pacy, powerful option needed ) and left back cover although someone like Soler an also operate as a full back apparently? Palace? Hmmm, another narrow loss could ensue but acceptable if you can see progression. Havent yet but will try not to soil myself just yet :-)"

Re: Lopetegui
"COYI is a simpleton, king of the knicker wetters. I’m / was a self confessed Moyes fan but I am prepared to give Lopetegui some time but to say he has been a failure everywhere he has been is just stupidity. His record at Sevilla was fantastic and you don’t get offered the Spain job if you are crap. He was unbeaten there for 2 years and only left because his bosses found out that he was going to Real Madrid after the tournament. You also don’t get offered the Madrid job if you are shit, it didn’t work out for him there but it is a basket case of a club. So let’s give him a chance."
Re: Lopetegui
"How many managers don't get sacked from every job they have? He was Seville's most successful league manager in their history, yet you're saying he failed there. Three consecutive years he qualified for champions league. He wouldn't have been my choice but calling him a failure at Seville and Spain where he was unbeaten for 2 years and near most of the world's top ranked sides is a massive stretch"

"I am certainly questioning 'guru Tim' who has loaded the squad with slow, plodding dross. Thanks to him and his disastrous transfer dealings and the club appointing a loser of a manager who has been sacked from almost every job he has had, we are in for a long hard season ahead battling relegation."

Re: Lopetegui
"Doesn't really matter who was appointed when Moyes left, losing that opening game would have seen a similar thread pop up and some calling the new manager out as a fraud or whatever. Hes only half the position though, why is no one criticizing the Scarf Botherer? He is charge of recruitment, Some look decant but questions marks hanging over Zee German, Kilman and the Argentinian Let's hope all 3 are proved to be good acquisitions, If we lose to Palace or even just get a point, then Man City i can see some serious urine being passed.....LOL"

"He's a Spanish Alan Curbishley. Everyone knows what they are doing and well organised, but players can lack imagination. Grinds out results."
Re: Lopetegui
"Though I was a little underwhelmed by this appointment I'm happy to give him a chance. However, I do wonder why we didn't go for a more progressive manager/coach. Is it now a case of being in the prem is worth so much financially that we're happy finishing top ten with the odd sojourn into Europe, so we put the club in a 'safe pair of hands'? Business wise, if you're raking in a couple of hundred million every year, why change things? But if that's the case, why not stick with Moyes? Fan discontent? Oh, to be a fly on that boardroom's wall! And why is everyone giving Potter a wide berth? I realise that he didn't do too great at Chelsea but that was a poisoned chalice."

Re: Lopetegui
"Said when he joined things won’t change much. He isn’t really that interested in youth as his sides have got older quickly and beyond natural progression. His sides have never played great attacking football either. He is less pragmatic than Moyes but that isn’t anything to champion. The one good thing is I don’t think he will shit on the club and the support for his own failings, ridiculing a ‘so called’ west ham way. So I hope he strikes a balance between, what I expect he’ll take for his best chance of doing well, and what is the best chance as a foundation for the club to build on. It’s that foundation which the club has struggled with, having flirted from attacking to defensive minded managers that all choose the expensive short sighted route and really not built anything as an identity."

"Manuel, Agree. Disappointment as seeing a few too many of the old faces for too many minutes in a game is fair, most of us felt it, But writing off the whole season and calling our manager a loser is quite another. As you say 'He has gone early'* *Shot his load before he's even logged onto Pornhub early"

Re: Lopetegui
"COYI has gone early and I don't have a problem with that and to an extent I agree with him that some of our signings may well disappoint, but his argument ref the manager is quiet weak. The other problem he now has is that he will now want us to lose, even if he won't admit to it."

Re: Lopetegui
"Come On You Irons No one is saying you cant have and voice an opinion sweetie, BUT we are, in turn, allowed to have an opinion ourselves. My Opinion is that sending out flares after one game either means someone is a knicker wetter, an attention seeker or his hoping to put down an 'i told you so marker' to try and be right in January and show how clever they are. None of the above are particularly helpful. BTW which one are you?"

Re: Lopetegui
They beat a team that haven't qualified for the last 2 world cup. Big whoopee do. (that's a joke to goose before anyone misses it)

Re: Lopetegui
"""Unbeaten as Spain manager"" I keep seeing this. He just did a Southgate though there, didn't he? It's not really a massive achievement to go through the qualifying stages unbeaten for the likes of Spain/England/etc., is it?"
Re: Lopetegui
"Villa lost 5-1 on the opening day of last season, yet we all know how the rest of their season went!"
Re: Lopetegui
"COYI you have to be on a wind up?? Unbeaten as Spain manager and sacked because he said he was going to depart the national team after the tournament Sacked from Seville, abut during that period he qualified for the champions league in his first season and also won the Europa League with them Sacked by Real after less than half a season, a Real Madrid who also went on to sack another manager before the end of the same season Why the pessimism after 1 match?"
Re: Lopetegui
"Hilarious that you completely ignored the fact he was unbeaten as Spain manager when they SACKED him. And delivered 3 seasons of elite level champions league qualification and won the Europa League before he was SACKED at Sevilla. Do you think unai Emery is elite level? Jose Mourinho aside, who was YOUR choice as manager?"

Re: Lopetegui
Everyone knows elite level means the top division of the top rated European leagues and top level international management. Let's look at Lopetegui's record on that: - SACKED by Porto after failing to win any trophies there in a two-team league. SACKED after a 6-1 defeat in the Champions League. - SACKED by Spain for talking to Real Madrid behind their backs. - SACKED by Real Madrid after three months after a disastrous start. - SACKED by Sevilla after 5 losses in 8 games. SACKED after a 1-4 home defeat in the Champions League. Quality manager!
