"Terrible. Just been announced that everyone now accounted for. Good news. Full praise goes to the Fire Brigade, Ambulance service and OB for swift and effective action. But ‘East London’ all over the screens. I just don’t get it. Sort it out you tossers."

"Chadwell Heath's history is quite interesting and very fragmented. Before I went to work in the Middle East, I spent many days over several weeks pouring through the records in Valence House - quite a lot of information there but many gaps that leave it ambiguous at best. Still, at least there's a West Ham connection (apart from the training ground). The White Horse pub (sadly no more) gives a clue, as does the fairly steep drop from the junction of Whalebone Lane & the High Road down to Morgan Avenue, just before the rise over the railway bridge starts. I may start a ""local history"" thread on the new site to bundle all shit like this together."

"Chadwell Heath is one of those weird places that doesn’t exist. It’s in the London borough of barking & Dagenham Chadwell Heath lane is Redbridge Anything east of the Tollgate pub is Havering Marks gate is actually LBBD as well. I just say I live near Romford if anyone asks, to embarrassing to say I live in Dagenham. And that’s from someone who lived in Ilford for 50 years."

"Fuck me Oxsaw, you grew up in Chadwell Heath? You've never mentioned that before, you old bore. Is there any thread that doesn't have to be about YOU? I thought you had fucked off to the new, modern shiny site?"

"I guess that technically Selinas Lane/Freshwater Road is not Chadwell Heath because it is (just) south of the railway. I always saw it as a part of Chadwell Heath when growing up, but would probably now concede that it was more Becontree Heath. It was never, for as long as I remember, a residential street - just light industrial engineering and warehousing - probably, as a kid in the 60s, the most boring local street to cycle down - ever. I do recall frequent fires there though - the glow(s) from which were visible from my childhood home back garden."
