Russell Brand
Dispatches tonight could be about him so he has jumped in first dismissing claims and rumours and saying anything he did in past was consensual. No doubt it will be said that this is The Matrix coming after him due to his opposition to mainstream media.

Re: Russell Brand
"Generally agree, charley, but there are some subtle differences. This wasn't really a story in the sense that these allegations suddenly came to light. They went hunting for it. There's at least one video out there from a woman showing the emails she received. Her story wasn't used because it didn't fit the narrative they wanted. This stuff was known for a long time, but only now its coming out. The issue, as ever these days, is the polarisation. It's perfectly possible to think he's likely guilty, minimally, of being a deviant; while simultaneously thinking that the timing of this coming out is more than a little bit suspect at a time when he's challenging the media narrative on a wide variety of subjects....and also to think its pretty disgusting that the same media outlets who knew about his behaviour and protected it are now running the campaign to ruin him."
Re: Russell Brand
"I don’t know how they are able to do this. Whether you buy their stories or not, the met have confirmed that they have not received any allegations. These people therefore think that right avenue to go down to make the allegations is the Times and Channel 4 rather than the official legal routes. If they aren’t prepared to make formal reports of the alleged crimes, it is absolutely slanderous, and all parties should and will be taken to the cleaners and rightly so. Clearly if there is proven criminal wrongdoing he absolutely should have the book thrown at him, but it is pretty appalling that he is effectively being made out to be guilty without a fair trial or any trial at all. No way should he have been named without proper legal process. Its on his reputation now, and you might argue he deserves that for his lifestyle choices, but he has never hidden that he is an addict to many things, but that does not make him a criminal unless there is evidence and proof to find him guilty."

"I don't see anything has changed here, a newspaper gets hold of a story and providing it can make money from it or if it is political story and they can gain votes for it's particular party it supports, then it runs with it, it's not always political it's what sells and if it's a celeb it will sell"

Re: Russell Brand
i enjoyed the bit where him telling the girl to sit in the bath for an hour was done up like a scene from a saw film. my girlfriend would consider a measly 1hr bath to be a waste of water.

Re: Russell Brand
"They’re saying to him “ you cant have it both ways” you’re either in or out and now you’re out forever. Everybody associated with him will be told the same thing. News is no longer next Friday's chip paper. Its there forever, to be linked to as some authority of truth. The amount of words already published that appear to misrepresent him will be there for perpetuity. All it took was this one shoddy “investigation”. They are telling all of us Stay in your lane"

Re: Russell Brand
"Depends on your definition- or whether you subscribe to the redefinition - of the political spectrum, I suppose. At worst it's centre right... but considering that the current Conservative party sits further to the left than the previous Labour government I'm not entirely sure how one would measure that. They endorsed labour in 2005, and cons more recently, so they're certainly more floating and objective than most others. The mail, telegraph and guardian, they are not"

"Charley- it's the times (centrist) and C4 (rabidly left). Those are the people that launched the investigation and actively sought out the complainants. Others running with the story is just doing their job because, evidently, its a big story."

Re: Russell Brand
Don’t quite understand when people are saying it’s the ‘woke’ going after Brand when 2 of the biggest right wing newspapers saw the allegations and have run with the story So for my benefit not on anybody’s. ‘side’ Is it the right attacking the right or the right attacking the ex-woke Brand

"Caught about 5 minutes of the programme last night. Noticed that this ""witness"" had to be shown as a shadow and had the voice changed. Yeah, so that's enough bullshit to see. Usually you can tell by someone's sincerity by watching them speak. Brand has written about his past in books. He knew he was a sex pest and coke head. The fella went on American TV not long ago, spoke facts about big pharma companies and all the new billionaires who have taken the tax payers money etc. Hardly surprising he was the next ""Andrew Tate"" Anyone that can't see these patterns are either thick as pig shit or just so oblivious to what's going on in this world."

"Perhaps there needs to be the equivalent of a #metoo group for people found guilty in a trial by media but not guilty in a court of law. I'd love it, just love it if this all turned out as plain media/establishment bitchiness and his legal team went after ALL those who vilified him for any income perceived to have been lost by him through this."

"I’m no fan of Brand but what this shows me is that “ innocent until proven guilty “ no longer exists in this country. The amount of organisations that are ditching him is staggering, these are no more than allegations at this time and trying to prove they are fact will be nigh on impossible. His lawyers will have a field day."

Re: Russell Brand
"""Speaking for myself"": a concept many people (not just on here) need to embrace and adopt more often. I can't recall ever asking a girl's age when I was younger; I felt it fairly safe to assume that if she was in a bar or a club when I met her, she was over 18. If any of you have daughters then unless you've imprisoned them in a basement throughout their lives you'll know that they are not all sweet little angels with pink-ribboned pigtails, gingham school uniforms with white pinafores, waiting patiently for a real stud to swoop in, sweep them off their feet and into a steady, ""traditional"" relationship."

Re: Russell Brand
"Full Claret Jacket 11:34 Sun Sep 17 It's a convenient defence that. A drying up of mainstream work saw Brand take to the lucrative tin foil hat market. And maybe he foresaw it as the perfect way to build a defence to the normal legal challenges that were coming down the road. Anyway, it nothing else, the man is an unfunny vulgar creep. Never a fan of Geldof, but Brand's face when Geldof called him a cսnt was priceless. Finally, has there been any word from Rachel Riley?"
