Last 15 games they’re 11th in the table with a negative GD. They started great but have been very much found out defensively.

"Lee wasn't his inquiry for Cresswell and Ings, due to him only having £5 mill available to spend in the summer window? I seem to remember Wolves saying that our asking price of £2.5 mill for Cresswell was too much and they walked away."

"""Sevilla also moaned about the squad age before he left."" I keep seeing people suggest he's big on playing youths. Is this from his time coaching Spain U19's and the U21's? One of my concerns is that he was looking to buy Ings and Cresswell from us. This was after spending £130m at Wolves."

"I think there is going to be quite a bit of disappointment from Lopetegui. I don’t think much will change from Moyes, beyond passing the ball about the back four more often. In general both Porto and Sevilla fans disliked him for being plan A only, with defensive minded boring football. Which is where his relevant success was. Sevilla also moaned about the squad age before he left. Honestly can’t see him lasting long, or laying any foundation towards what (I think) most fans would expect as a remit. Before anyone gets defensive about not giving him a chance. My opinion won’t make a blind bit of difference to his job and how well he does. If this appointment works out how I expect, this has to be Sullivan’s last throw of the dice as chairman. I’m fucking sick of his scattergun approach to the club on the pitch, even with a ECL trophy."

"goose, hasn't he also been consistent at some of his clubs of getting them into the Champions League? That is what gets you a reputation especially if at times you haven't been managing the top 2 clubs in their respective leagues. Klopp was well respected because he was doing a great job of getting Dortmund into the Champions League then he got them to the final there and was deemed a top manager....."

twoleftfeet 7:17 Tue May 7 Re: Welcome to West Ham United Julen Lopetegui !!! You really don't do yourself any favours do you? Anyone with a passing interest in european football would have heard of De Zerbi. And to say that 'Big Ange' is a level above Lopetegui? Have a word. He's managed in Scotland & Japan and then been found out massively in the PL. Lopetegui has coached at a higher level for more than one season and has actually won a trophy of note.

Keyes has had a grudge against West Ham ever since Karren Brady outed him for his tarmaccing exploits.

"The first major positive is that he has been appointed as a ""Head Coach"". He has worked with a Technical Director before and has already stated he looks forward to working with Tim Steidten. Major boost for us. Moyes was so inflexible and stubborn he couldn't reliinquish power. It was always to crash and would have been toxic. At least the clubs management can all start off on the same page,"

Postecoglou has had a good two thirds of a season but has dropped right off. No one had heard of him before he went to Celtic and success north of the border counts for very little. He started very well at Spurs but to say he is a 2 is very generous.

"I was not Moyes out like a lot of people purely down to the style of play. That said, I'm just happy when we're winning as its a results business as far as I'm concerned However you won't win many games when you concede an average of 2 goals a game over the season. So moyes has take responsibility for that. I'm not a fan of Sullivan but of course you have to sound out a new manager and you wont do it under the radar these days as some people would slam him for not having a contingency plan in place if he didn't.Its like tapping up players its wrong but we all know every one does it. "They haven't attracted better managers, Brighton and Brentford look for potential. Who had heard of De Zerbi and Frank before their jobs? There are level 1 managers, Pep, Klopp etc etc There are level 2 managers, Pochettino, Postecoglou and Arteta Then are are level 3 and below which is where Brentford, Brighton etc etc shop. I'd say Lopetegui is a 3 with potential to be a 2. Moyes is a 3 and he will never leave that zone."

I'll say one thing for him and that is he likes a substitution or 5!! I checked a few of his games from his Wolves days and he has no issue with 5 off and 5 on. When they beat us 1-0 we made our usual 2 and he went the full 5.

"Teams like Brighton, Palace, Fulham & Brentford seem to have been able to attract decent managers so you'd hope a London based team watched by 60.000 that has been in Europe for 3 successive seasons would do likewise OR BETTER. M"

"The truth is, we're not a successful enough club to attract the very best head coach talent. To be fair, this guy looks better than who we'd usually attract. We've hardly had a plethora of world class managers in the dug out. Only time will tell"

There were several approached & possibly in the mix. Tim and Noble may have preferred Amorim but he isnt going to present a shortlist of ONE name .... and then find that preferred candidate isnt interested Of those who WERE interested (I have no idea whether thats Lopetegui and anyone else) who would YOU pick?

"I'd be surprised in this day and age if anyone takes Keys seriously anymore. He's just a massive attention seeker. Going back to that report by Ornstein, it doesn't really say that Lopetegui is in any way Steidten's choice, to me. Just that he's involved in the process, which you'd hope he would be. Am I right that there was a report over the weekend suggesting Steidten's and Noble's choice was Amorim?"

"Not hanging your hat on Keys are you? Moyes hadnt signed his contract so what exactly would you expect the SNEAKY WEASEL to do obviously under instruction from the owners..... check out alternative managers The rumour was that Tim and Noble wanted Amorim ... as did may others including me. He didnt want to come and who knows how many of the others supposedly approached like Tuchel, Flick , Fonseca etc gave the same response. Moyes should have been told he wasnt being renewed long ago & then its a choice from who is available & keen If not Lopetegui who of those would be YOUR choice?"

funny how no-one had a problem that west ham spoke to Moyes weeks before he took over from Pellegrini. or with Glasner & Palace doing a deal while Woy was on his death bed.
