Re: Welcome to West Ham United Julen Lopetegui !!!
Not sure the first thing that comes to mind is mental strength when I think of Matt Dawson. It's a Question of Sport.

Re: Welcome to West Ham United Julen Lopetegui !!!
I want a team with the mental strength of Matt Dawson but with passing ability and speed. We seem to have gone weak again. The worst West Ham teams are weak.
Re: Welcome to West Ham United Julen Lopetegui !!!
"Re: Welcome to West Ham United Julen Lopetegui !!! Well there certainly won't be a rendition of Julen Lopetegui's claret & blue army,,, quite a tongue twister! I know Julen hasn't got an 'I' in it, but we could use Dicksie's chant if we start to build some traction. Julien, Julien, Julien, Julien, Julien, Julien, Julien, Julien, Julien, Julien, JU - LI - EN!"
Re: Welcome to West Ham United Julen Lopetegui !!!
"Agree Angel, although Lope is known to be incredibly structured and not allow a lot of autonomy or flexibility within that structure. He is also a spoiler in the press more than aggressive...not so much about winning the ball back high as keeping the oppo deep and in areas they don't want to be. I think he's a very good manager, would be successful for us, but am no convinced the spectacle will be exciting to watch. As you say, much more Pellegrini and Bilic (lots of passing the ball back and forth sideways across the pitch, before trying to move it up the sides....somewhat like Southgate with England even."
Re: Welcome to West Ham United Julen Lopetegui !!!
"I think you're right there Stubbo. I expect it'll seem a lot more like Pellegrini than Moyes. Worst thing about Moyes is how passive we always are, and at least Lopetegui isn't that way inclined, but personally I'd prefer a faster, more direct brand of football. I suppose it's possible that while we get a slow build up from most of the team, players like Bowen and Kudus will naturally be more inclined to go direct and that might balance it out a bit if they're allowed to."
Re: Welcome to West Ham United Julen Lopetegui !!!
"The reality is Lopetegui plays possession football, but not swashbuckling football. I personally find watching Man City pretty boring but enjoy watching Liverpool. But Man City are the better team. I don't believe 'possession' is what the fans want. They want direct cut and thrust football, with aggressive ball reclamation. What's missing from Moyesball isn't so much goals or possession, but aggression. It's why the first half against Leverkusen was so good....the aggression and thrust and intent. Lopetegui is the exact opposite of Moyes...tries to starve the oppo of the ball, build slowly as opposed to reject the ball. But it's likely he's still not a style that will resonate with the fan base."

"And at the last count I think it's 2-1 to Lopetegui having won once against Moyes in Seville, lost once to a raucous London Stadium when the fans were bang up for it and lost again to Lopetegui's Wolves side. If that really matters in the grand scheme of things, which it doesn't being such a small pool sample of games to compare between them."

Re: Welcome to West Ham United Julen Lopetegui !!!
"It's not a specific similarity at all, as Moyes has never tried to bore Teams by keeping hold of possession. He bores everyone to tears by only having 10 men behind the ball and wait to pounce on any errors by the opposition who finally allow us to have the ball. The Football under Lopetegui is nothing like Moyes style."

"That's a fair comment, Nagel, and even if it were purely spanish, it could be dismissed as just regular forum talk. It's the specific similarities though that back my feelings about him. For all the unbeaten in a Spain side that were European and World champions before he took over comments people keep lauding, he got beat by Moyes in the Europa playing unimpressive football."

"Yeh imagine a West Ham forum just full of Nutsin’s!! On a serious note, we’re gonna find out very soon which version of Lopetegui we are getting, At least this process has given him time to plan, and now he has the summer to put those plans into place. My instinct is that 24/25 will be a season of transition."

"I'd looked at that forum before, Jaan. Almost none of the commenters are Spanish or even live in Spain, so not sure how to take that. If it was a bunch of Yanks living in the US talking about West Ham I wouldn't pay too much attention to it, so..."

Re: Welcome to West Ham United Julen Lopetegui !!!
"Some interesting comments on this thread that mirror the exact criticisms of Moyes. Boring defensive football. Stubborn. Has favourite players and ignores others. Doesn't improve players who lose form. Should have sacked him long before, when a season collapsed after January. https://forum.monchismen.com/t/opinions-on-lopeteguis-sevilla/1053 'We don’t create anything, and we don’t shoot at goal. I don’t get the whole keep possession to do nothing with it.' 'Above all, Lope’s overly conservative tactics took away from the joy we get from watching Sevilla. You can loose, but there is no excuse for getting too scared to attack.' 'I sense a growing frustration here with Lopetegui’s system/style of play plus his starting 11 and substitutions, so the raincloud is entirely above Lope’s head. Too much personal responsibility on the players and that limits their creativity. You’ll see for every corner and free-kick YEN is defending the near post, then he has to gallop up field and chase the ball back to the goalkeeper. We don’t play for him, he plays for us, that’s pure Lope.' 'We are boring, slow and predictable.'"

Re: Welcome to West Ham United Julen Lopetegui !!!
"Aye, he ain't fucking about. He means business and wants to have a proper go at making his mark in English Football, in particular the Premier League. I've actually lost count the amount of times he references the Championship off his own back, which indicates his interest in English Football beyond the razzmatazz of the Premier League. Can't say the same about other foreign manager's who are enticed only by the Premier League. He reminds me of a Unai Emery MKII and maybe a poor man's Emery but I can see him making a similar mark on our Club if given the space (ie time over 2/3 seasons) and the right resources to kick us on. There should be plenty in the kitty this season in both windows to try and implement his style of Football, so it'll all be there for him to try and prove it."

Re: Welcome to West Ham United Julen Lopetegui !!!
"A quote from Loppy, just after taking the Spain job after nearly joining a Premier League club. He proper lives & breathes football this chap. “I’m passionate about English football; it’s lived in a special way, unique. There’s a culture of believing in mid- and long-term projects. Admittedly, that’s changing: the division with the most [managerial] changes in the world last season was the Championship. But there’s respect, a willingness to build properly, patience. Then there’s the fans’ passion. England invented football and the culture’s special. The challenge of bringing something new to English football was attractive; the chance to applying some of our culture, things I thought could help.”"

"Nah, Fornals is history now. Signed a 5 year contract with Betis and happily playing under Pellegrini enjoying his football once more and starting every game as opposed to left rotting on the bench like Moyes often did."
