Re: Welcome to West Ham United Julen Lopetegui !!!
Sacking the performance coach who been at the club 13 years to employ his son is a bit crappy.

He has his own website? He's the Spanish Brendan Rodgers!
Re: Welcome to West Ham United Julen Lopetegui !!!
"Robson's contract term is different. Moyes' ""team"" or those that didn't run away from him sooner have contracts in-line with Moyes. Robson's contract has another 2 years on it, so either pay him up or find a use for him in the club."

Re: Welcome to West Ham United Julen Lopetegui !!!
"The Irons are poised for a period of significant change, with the club embracing a modern approach under the leadership of Tim Steidten and newly appointed head coach Julen Lopetegui. These changes were the focus of a recent West Ham Way podcast, offering fans a glimpse into the exciting future taking shape at the London Stadium. David Moyes‘ time at West Ham has come to an end, marking a turning point for the club. While acknowledging Moyes’ contributions, the club is looking to move forward with a more data-driven strategy to ensure long-term success in the Premier League. Tim Steidten takes centre stage as the architect of West Ham’s revamped recruitment process. Steidten’s experience will be crucial in building a recruitment team that utilizes data analysis to identify players, similar to the successful models of Brentford and Brighton. Modernising recruitment is a core tenet of West Ham’s new direction. Steidten, who previously contributed to the success of Bayer Leverkusen in Germany’s Bundesliga, brings a wealth of experience in data-driven scouting. This approach aims to target players who not only possess the necessary talent but also fit seamlessly into Lopetegui’s tactical philosophy and the club’s long-term vision. Lopetegui’s arrival signifies a renewed focus on West Ham’s academy. Lopetegui is reportdedly excited about the potential within the club’s youth system. This shift is a significant change for West Ham, which has historically struggled to integrate academy graduates into the first team. With Lopetegui seemingly committed to giving young players a chance, the future looks brighter for West Ham’s academy prospects. The upcoming season promises to be a period of transformation for West Ham United. With a potential influx of nine to ten new signings, the squad could see a significant overhaul. There seems to be a massive sense of optimism about the changes underway, which is great to see. The strategic shift under Steidten and Lopetegui signifies a new dawn for West Ham United. By embracing data-driven recruitment and prioritising academy development, the club aspires to build a sustainable and competitive team that can challenge for years to come. West Ham fans around the world will be watching closely as this new era unfolds at the London Stadium."

"Blimey, that really is wholesale change. Interesting times ahead."
Re: Welcome to West Ham United Julen Lopetegui !!!
"I suspect that the goalkeeper coach is only staying because Lopetegui doesn't have a goalkeeper coach among his usual staff who follow him everywhere. Probably helps that he's Spanish as well. I'm assuming that Lopetegui will bring in all the staff who feature on his website, so that's an assistant coach, two fitness coaches, a 1st team coach, performance analyst and a technical assistant. The 1st team coach has actually been at West Ham before. Sort of. Edu Rubio was assistant manager under Konchesky for the women's team for a few months before Lopetegui hired him at Wolves."

Re: Welcome to West Ham United Julen Lopetegui !!!
"West Ham United can confirm that men’s first-team coaches Billy McKinlay, Kevin Nolan, John Heitinga and Henry Newman have left the Club. All four provided support to David Moyes during his time as manager, as the Club secured three top-nine Premier League finishes, reached the latter stages of three UEFA competitions and won the 2023 UEFA Europa Conference League. Former Scotland international midfielder McKinlay departs after more than four years with the Hammers, across two spells. He initially joined in November 2017, and returned in July 2021, and was an integral and valued member of the coaching staff, on the training pitch, in the presentation room and on matchdays. Former midfielder Nolan, who captained the Hammers to promotion at Wembley in 2012, was appointed to Moyes’ backroom staff in February 2020. A valuable link between the manager and the dressing room, the 41-year-old was a visible presence on the touchline as the Hammers enjoyed four impressive seasons. Heitinga was reunited with Moyes in September 2023, having previously played under the Scotsman at Everton, while Newman was added to Moyes’ staff as lead opposition scout in January 2020 and later progressed to the role of first-team coach and assisted Moyes by providing analysis of upcoming opponents. Head of player recruitment Rob Newman and first-team technical advisor Alan Irvine will also depart, as will fitness coach Nick Davies and head of performance analysis Jamie Osman. The Club would like to thank Billy, Kevin, John, Henry, Rob, Alan, Nick and Jamie for their hard work, commitment and dedication to West Ham United and wish each of them all the very best in the future."

"Banjo if you enjoyed reading that ""independent"" analysis of his style and tactics you might also enjoy visiting Lopetegui's own website where the man himself outlines his own football philosophy https://julenlopetegui.com/en/. I am sure I followed it completely, it will, it seems, require the players to be mentally strong and tactically astute at all times. All very interesting. Did Moyes have a website :}"

"On the face of it and based on nothing but my pure ignorance and prejudice I was not enthused by Lopetegui's proposed appointment. In an effort to justify my stance, I stumbled across the following: https://www.coachesvoice.com/cv/julen-lopetegui-sevilla-real-madrid-spain/ Which seems not to support my position and that of other self-opinionated armchair experts on WHO. Does this provide a glimmer of hope? Time will tell"

"Jaan Kenbrovin I've felt the same regarding this appointment. Then I was then told to get on board, and be positive for next season, and give him a chance. So I tried, and then I read a couple of days ago we were resigning Cresswell. I'm hoping a few more better transfers might get me more excited."
Re: Welcome to West Ham United Julen Lopetegui !!!
So you not think that to complete change our style of play with the state our squad has been left in by Moyes might be a bit unrealistic and this middle of the road change in the right direction is the better step to take? To be fair I think you are also being very negative about his style of play. I think it is a bit better than what you are describing with a high defence and counter press but I guess we will have to wait and see about that. I should also say he wasn’t my choice but don’t think it will be as bad as you think.

Re: Welcome to West Ham United Julen Lopetegui !!!
"LJC 10:11 Tue May 21 He has a dull style of play that’s cautious in attack, focusing heavily on crosses. And is reliant on a defence that sits quite deep. Our possession rate will improve but he is pragmatic and will not implement a whole new system that players have to adapt to. Making me extremely dubious that this could be part of a new defined long term strategy for the club most fans desire. Overall he seems like a mix of Pellegrini and Moyes, and is just the highest profile bloke Will Salthouse could find."
