"Well I'm apparently behind the times: Beginning in 2022 the National League adopted the designated hitter. Pitchers no longer took a spot in the batting order, and that rendered the double switch virtually unneeded. Which is a crying shame as the double switch was a chess move for baseball."

"Every player does get to bat except in the American League where the pitchers place in the line-up is taken by the Designated Hitter, in the National League the pitcher normally gets to bat until the later innings where the manager will do what is known as the double switch, it’s a bit complicated that one."

"Gaffer Basic thing to remember is the number 9 .. nine men per team, nine innings per team nine innings sounds a lot, but once three men are out, that ends an innings. If you fail to hit 3 good pitches you are out. you can also be caught, or run out (both like cricket) Also if you hit the ball, you must run, (unlike cricket). which means a lot of run outs happen. When a player gets round the three outfield bases and back home to the 4th base, thats a run, whether he did it in one go or in stages. . ."

"I'm giving you rules for major league baseball or the MLB: A game usually lasts for about three hours that is nine innings but theoretically it can last for twenty innings or more, it needs to be won by at least one run but only after both teams have played nine innings."

"As a complete novice at baseball, it would be appreciated if someone can give the basic rules and advice, eg, how long does a game last, does every player get to bat, how is a batter out, do you get the same points if a batter moves from base to base slowly or if he hits it over the boundary?"

Went to one of the Yankees Red Sox games way back when but haven’t thought about going again. Ticket prices for me are set too high to justify it seen as it’s on telly anyway. I’d go if they were cheaper as it’s a fun day out but even the absolute nosebleeds are about 70-80 quid. I have a feeling there might be some empty seats.
