Dine And Dash

Post Gary Strodders shank »

"All the rage at the moment Anyone tried it ? Not really a dine and dash however I was once involved in an unfortunate episode at a KFC involving a drunken bet, bargain buckets and the open hatch of a backed up XR3i getaway car It ended badly with concussion chicken strewn all over the road and pavement and a visit from the boys in blue"

"Low level shoplifting (crime in general, really) now seems to have government seal of approval in many western nations. I guess they've worked out that the number of shoplifters who turn out to be mass murders, suicide bombers or school kid shooters is so low we (they) can tolerate it. Insurance will cover it. The words ""slope"" & ""slippery"" spring to mind. Wasn't this exactly how New York gained it's notoriety about 20/30 years ago? Is that what you want, etc, etc?"

I used to try getting away with paying for a child's ticket on the buses when they had conductors. Never had any success though - think the beard was a dead give-away.

Did this once as a young man with a couple of friends. Really exciting but felt bad about it and have never done it since. Would happily rip off any corporate type place but rarely eat in those so happily pay and feel good about it. That all said when literally everyone was nicking music for free a few years ago I openly told people who did this who owned restaurants if I could nick a couple of bottles of their wine.

"Did it once completely by accident Went to a newish wine bar place, got a bottle of something, loads of snacks/nibbles etc., think a couple of shots. Walked out without paying, just assumed we'd already paid up the bar but it was a ""table service"" type place where you pay at the end like in a restaurant Suddenly remembered when we were at another bar, googled their number and rung em explaining.. they didn't seem bothered at all and think the bloke even said ""don't worry about it"" but promised to go back and pay when I had a chance By the time I had a chance about 2 weeks later the place had closed down. *shrugs*"

"You can get deliveries anywhere - even an underage Cambodian cripple to a tree for you to pleasure. No surprise they all fucked off to me either given the wedge I was on at the time. Silly fuckers thought I'd just swollow it and move on. Talking of moving on, have social services arranged for you to move out of your squat in an abandoned and delapidated Upminster lock-up yet? No? Caring Conservatives, eh? Tsk-tsk."

"Get most of my stuff delivered these days (and the delivery man always gets a drink), but when I decide to cook something on the spur I'll wander over to a local market, tell the stall-holder what I want to do and inevitebly get what I want, if not from him/her directly, they'll send me to a stall that has what I want. The stall holders appreciate a bit of banter (especially if it makes them extra money) to break their day up from ungrateful, entitled cunts they normally serve. Got left with a bill in an Indian restaurant many, many years ago - just before we were leaving, I went to the bog for a slash. Came back and everybody had fucked off. We had ""words"" later and I was reimbursed."

Just once is a Bistro in Paris and that because we were being purposefully and repeatedly ignored by the waiter. All we were going was attmpting to get another drink and the dessert menu. After 20 minutes of this treatment we just got up and walked out.

"""Anyone that does it is a theiving little cսnt Not only to the restaurant , but to the waiting staff who rely on the tips"" True. But it's not so clean cut as your portraying there. I worked in bars and restaurants for about 10 years when I was younger. If you think a dine and dash is a thieving cսnt you should hear about the things I witnessed in the places I worked. Walked in the cellar in one place to find the steward with a hose pipe in the beer barrel. He used to depressurise a few barrels on a Friday night when it was busy and top them up with water before reconnecting them. Managers in some city bars I worked in would encourage the staff to stick several drinks on the tabs of people who had stuck their cards behind the bar. I won't begin to tell you want I saw in the restaurants. So I wouldn't cry too much over some businesses getting the odd runner."

"Did it loads of places in my younger days. Including Jamie Olivers. The latter wasn't intended. The waiters were so up themselves, yawning as they showed us the dessert menu etc and too busy chatting up the other waitress to pay us any attention. Couldn't get their attention to take the money so walked out the door with the bill in my hand with the intention to pay if challenged. They didn't so all four us just walked out the door. A good few hundred quid there. Other places included a French place on Upper Street, Islington and a hotel in Oban, Scotland. Probably a couple more that I forgot. Not proud of those other ones, possibly cost an impoverished waiter some wages. But Jamie's mob deserved it. I am generous tipper these days as my penance."
