Is this site about to die?

Post BRANDED »

Haven't been able to post all week and it seems only about 20 people can. Anyway. Best to just kill it off?

"The site is very temperamental these days. Sometimes you can’t even load a page, never mind trying to post. A couple of times I’ve even unwittingly been given mod status. I was tempted to start brandishing yellow cards but it probably would have crashed before I could start flexing my new found (temporary) power."

"What exactly does kill it off mean, I don't suppose you even know yourself. As long as the domain is still active then the site will be up on the www, it won't fucking work, but it'll still be here, so those that want to take 15 mins to put up one post that won't be read or replied to by many can carry on, but the likelihood, as said below, is that it will have less and less posters before it just becomes null and void. As for a new site, well some of you parrots have been going on about this for years with zero progress, but feel free to keep harping on about the idea while doing nothing about it, but I won't be."

"The creation of an alternative site is not really the problem (these days). This site, though, until the bloke in charge of the church keys fucked off with the hymn book, was evolving based on user feedback into the look & feel it currently has (now, sadly, a juggernaut powered by a lawn-mower engine). It will be the capturing and maintaining of the site ""essence"" while replacing the lawn-mower engine that will probably provide the biggest challenge, temporally if not technically."

Is a bit of a lottery if the site will load at times! And posting anything takes a while if it doesn't time out beforehand. Does seem quieter on here recently so expect a few have got fucked off with it and don't bother anymore.

"I agree with Coffee. I've just created this in five minutes for free. https://westham.boards.net/ Ironically, it's taken three times the time to post this message."

"Don't listen to the weird, depressive, self harming sorts who are suggesting killing this website off. This has been a source of entertainment and frustration for me for 20 years now. No other place like it. Just work out a way of making the website less WANK than it's been the last 6 months please mods."

"If it does die it does, if it don't it don't. If it gets too frustrating to use people will go elsewhere for their West Ham fix - albeit without so much linguistic freedom. I think that the smarter among us have already decided it's not even worth trying to access the site and see if it's still alive, which is probably what will be it's final demise. No need to dramatically stab it in the back to kill it off: just stop trying to log on/post if it's boiling your piss that much."

"I hope it's not best to kill it off. There's a core of decent people on here with an established presence on WHO, people who want to see it continue and, with luck, to thrive. As I understand it, the main problem is the little shit who controls the site's name, hosting, etc. The solution would seem to be to transfer the whole thing to a new name and hosting provider."

"Can't do anything because the owner of the server has fucked off with the keys. I agree it's time to shut it down, we've had a great time with some great stories but it's time to move on. Whispering Rasta"
