"Bitcoin went past $23,000 today. I've made just over £400 today trading it from the comfort of my sofa. other cryptocurrencies have been flying as well. short term fad or long term alternative currency??"
Re: Bitcoin
"Like a lot of investments you buy it, you sit on it and you hope it goes up in value. I don't see how this is any different. Or you trade it. It's more like 30% dip really, which has happened many times before. It's a confluence of reasons and sometimes just someone selling loads of BTC. The reasoning is sometimes hard to pin down."

Re: Bitcoin
"Vexed, volatility is good for Traders, thats how they make money. For Investors increase in the value of the asset is good not volatility. Ok if Musk is lazy reporting fine but what is it? People having to find money for tax payments? People who promote Bitcoin on the way up will talk at great lengths about why its going up. When it is going down, a shrug of the shoulders. 40% is a dip?"

Re: Bitcoin
Nor is the mining of bitcoin killing the planet. ________ It's still more environmentally friendly than conventional banking and a recent report stated 75% of mining comes via renewable energy anyway.

Re: Bitcoin
"I think it's down to Musk being a dick, divs believing Western media lies that China is banning crypto, and consequent panic selling. There's plenty of big guns still buying large amounts of BTC but fuck knows what the bottom is for this current dip. I'd hazard a guess at around 26k. If you are looking to invest long term, now's the time to buy but only spend what you can afford to lose."
Re: Bitcoin
"Volatility is good. It's the thing that enables people to make money. These dips happen quite regularly, although this one is the biggest since......er February. Not a drama yet. People will lose money if they panic for sure. It's not all the idiot Musk either, that's just lazy reporting. Nor is the mining of bitcoin killing the planet."

Re: Bitcoin
"While holders I presume expect it to be volatile at the present moment BTC is down 40% from it high - in a month. Long term holders may be fine but that does suggest some recent buyers have lost a lot of money. Is this all Musk? Is this threats from some countries over its legality? Not having a poke at those who believe in this but how do you ‘invest’ in this? Trade, if you’re really good at it I can see, I’m sure I’m going to be told I don’t understand this because I am ‘old’ but it does seem more casino than stock market. Someone once said it was an inflation hedge. What sort of inflation were we expecting?"
Re: Bitcoin
I know nothing about any of this but randomly in lockdown bought 100 dollars of Doge coin via Binance. That got me 1625 of the buggers. What's the advice? How do I sell if I want to?

"camel-with-3-humps 1:57 Tue May 18 ""Ooh I've been caught out I'd better start shouting the odds"" What a lemon. As for trading view, use it quite a lot actually. The vast majority of my trades are controlled via Pine and executed automatically. Eat that up you Toby."

"Not for the better though. That cսnt has me 30% down. Anyway, my cousin has Aspergers and all he can muster is playing the maracas. He's good mind, but not life-changing."

Re: Bitcoin
"Vexed What are you talking about? Bitcoin Cash was consolidating in a bull flag in mid-March and sprang out. It's clear you've never used Tradingview/Exo or ever done any TA. It's mind-boggling to watch someone who knows so little, think they know so much."

Re: Bitcoin
It's all a bit daft that a billionaire troll with Aspergers can have such an impact on the market as the result of a couple of tweets. I doubt I'd have bothered if i knew this nonsense would pipe up.

"Interesting podcast on Crypto, in this case Dodgecoin. If nothing else its an insight into how the people who trade this think. The Daily is a NY Times podcast. https://the-daily.simplecast.com/episodes/20210514-hvO_gDUO"

Re: Bitcoin
Vexed Bitcoin went up 300% from my recommendation in mid-March to peak. Hardly a bad trade. Called buying an asset under accumulation instead of buying a topped out parabolic crypto. Not that you would understand.
