West Ham United is delighted to confirm the signing of England midfielder Kalvin Phillips on loan until the end of the 2023/24 season. The 28-year-old joins the Hammers from Manchester City and could make his debut in Thursday’s Premier League fixture with AFC Bournemouth at London Stadium.

"Opps, forgot to mention that he won't even be allowed to play in the last game of the season as well against his parent Club, City of course. Personally I'd send him back now, we'd at least stand more chance of not conceding then."

"chim chim cha boo wrote... Re: Kalvin Philips Done Philips will come good once he's up to speed. He'll be a key player soon I guarantee it Phillips hasn't been up to full speed since the summer of 2021, almost 3 seasons ago now. Since that time he's struggled to play just about half a Premier League season for Leeds avoiding relegation by the skin of his teeth. Before then going on to being accused of being a lazy, fat arsed unprofessional wanker by Guardiola who clearly regretted wasting so much money on him. So who enters stage left to come to Peps rescue? Yes, that dopey defensive obsessed useful idiot, Moyes. And after 3 games in already for us, fatty Phillips has predictably been at the heart of conceding 2 goals in as many matches. 3 minutes and 10 minutes apart since entering the pitch. So fuck knows what anyone expects from this point on from him when we are sinking like a stone, getting tonked 0-6 at Home with the likes of high flying Villa, Spurs, Liverpool, Newcastle away still to play. He struggled to make any mark against Bournemouth for fuck sake. Sooner he's fucked off back to City to deal with, the better. Absolute waste of time and money, but hey, at least we managed to get a player from the mighty Man City, eh....."

"I read on C&H ( yes I know, drunk alert etc), a City fan saying he was half a yard too slow and unable to instantly control and move the ball like the rest of the City squad. Now we know the standards there are pretty much the best in the league and possibly the globe but in the Premiership you need that instant control and speed of movement and / or thought to move it on quickly to be effective especially in teams that keep the ball. You also need strength on the ball to retain it if you do get caught in possession as teams press quickly and relentlessly. Moyes would not see the instant control as a priority since his teams don't keep the ball. JWP has it but lacks the movement and strength hence is better with space and time to use his passing ability. The rest of Moyes transfer choices with the possible exception of Aguerd are not comfortable on the ball. Steidten's ( Alvarez, Kudus, Mavropanas) do appear to be comfortable in possession although the latter struggles as we know from decision making with those 2 pass backs that led to goals but over time he should be comfortable in a team that keeps it better, Phillips? Hmmm, seems he will need to get super fit and use his physique to protect the ball if controlling it is not always top quality. His passing is decent but tended to be over distance with diagonals. No wonder Moyes wanted him. Fits his fast counterattacking tactic. What I will venture and its a 'no shit Sherlock' comment, Phillips is still a lot better on the ball and with the ball than Soucek. Low bar but point is if Phillips is fit he should replace the the Czech beampole. He wont but should."

"Over rated, went to City just for the money which is fair enough but knew he would play alot so was happy to sit things out for a year. OK for the Leeds team he was in but they were a little bit opposite to ours at the moment. Just abit! More interesting in eating having fancy hair and sleeve tattoos ."

Hmm! I'm not sure he will come good yet. Sometimes players can't get back what talents they once had if it stays unused for too long. Lingard stepped over that line. Use it or lose it...

"Seems to be doing the opposite of what Lingard did when he came in to rejuvenate his career! Still plenty of time i suppose but at fault for 2 goals and now on the bench, hope he comes good but more hope than expectation."

"JWP hasn't actually had that many perfectly placed free kicks to score from. The one on Sunday was one of only 3 this season that he's had on the left hand side of the penalty area, which is the only place from which he's ever scored a free kick in his whole career. Complete waste of time him trying to on the right hand side of the box, which is where Kudus or someone else should be taking them. If you want to you can check the heat map in link below, and change the drop down for Situation to Direct Free Kicks and Result to Goal, and you'll see how narrow the space is from which he ever scores. 4 of the 5 free kicks that hit the post were from the same area too. https://understat.com/player/843"

"Jasnik, but JWP has had a few perfectly placed free kicks to score from. Thats why the Beckham stat is getting so annoying. If I remember well on Sunday at 1-0 down we had a free kick centrally on the edge of the penalty area. Kudus looked desperate to take it, but our expert took it and put it into the wall. Much as I would like to see JWP get his record number of goals, I'd rather see what Kudus can do."

"Going back probably too many posts, I think Phillips is or will be a better open playing midfielder than JWP. JWPs open play is incredibly disappointing, he does very little. I sometimes wish it was like American football and we could just bring him on for corners and free kicks."

"I think we should be explicit about this because nothing less than the future of the club is at stake. Moyes is a tool of the sick English football establishment, which sees the likes of West Ham United as feeder clubs for the two Manchesters, Liverpool, Arsenal and one of Chelsea or Tottenham. We are here to provide a facade of competition behind which deals involving the transfer of talent away and the lack of talent to us are concluded. That and various deals regarding the outcome of actual games of course … This is a grim state of affairs to accept and I’m counting on a large London outfit like West Ham United to be in the vanguard of fightback. And it starts with exposing the work of instruments like Moyes who are obviously active in rotten deals of this kind."

"If Phillips signing eventually sees Soucek being more of a bench player it may have some value as it finally breaks the unbilical cord. But Moyes will probably drop or rest Alvarez, JWP or Paqueta to accomodate his Tommy boy :-("

Flynn Downes - agree with that one . He never let us down when he played. Was nothing fancy but he did better than fine and a main stay for Southampton who are second in the champ.

For the development of OUR squad we could have: Recalled Flynn Downes and given him a run in the team Continued to try Ben Johnson as a DM Kept Kehrer and tried him as a DM Looked at our trophy winning youth & seen if one them could have stepped up

"Nagel 11:32 Massively agree- for me unfortunately Phillips is the literal personification of the general mismanagement of the squad and transfer strategy which is I presume where a lot of the frustration comes from- certainly mine. I'm not even pissed off with Phillips, it's more of a 'well what did they expect?' Two attackers leave what was already an area of need, none arrive, but a high price 'big name' defensive midfielder who is woefully out of form/fitness arrives for a temp loan. We're weaker than we were two weeks ago and are pretty much flushing money down the toilet which is insane. Phillips will no doubt improve, which is consolation but again I don;t really see the point of him other than backup for the younger and highly performing Alvarez. Maybe they can play together but you're still sacking off one of out actual players for someone only here short term, so he needs to materially improve the team when he plays. We'd have been far more wise to invest in a young promising CDM or box to box player more cheaply and for the future than essentially pay a small fortune to get another team's player fit for the World Cup or for sale for profit for them in the summer."

"European games may suit him better. Bit more time on the ball. He’s off the pace at the mo though, yet Moyes will manage to shoehorn him in, making the team weaker in the process. The irony being, had Moyes had the audacity to sign a striker, he’d have probably left him on the bench to start with saying he wasn’t ready……"

A stupid loan when you consider that we have a perfectly good dm that gets picked every week for high flying Southampton. Not a Moyes signing so never got any game time maybe him and his family being West Ham fans was a nail in his coffin

"Unlike Lingard when he came, Phillips is clearly physically unfit. The mistakes he has made leading to goals against were not errors he would have made when he had a yard of extra pace. If it's just a case of bad diet or training issues, you'd have thought that City could have sorted them out and got better value for their investment. I think there may be a psychological issue behind his dramatic loss of form. I really hope that the change of scene helps him, because he undoubtedly was a highly effective player and he knows how to defend."
