"Alf - Bit of a silly first paragraph to be fair, let's not forget Sullivan got his fingers badly burnt by going with the razzle dazzle, as you put it, appointment with the Chilean disaster, so let's give him a bit of credit. Besides, Lop is a long way from being done."

"Hmmm, apart from a decent 18 months at Seville, his record is not that great. Sullivan impressed by the “razzle dazzle” fact he managed Spain. Classic Sullivan and his penchant for “bling” not data driven analysis and due dilligence. He’s old, another tick from Sullivan. He was interviewed by Milan so more prestige in Sullivans eyes. Its always about reputation and prestige for Sullivan. So the question is where Steidten’s head is on all this? Loptegui typically gets a say in recruitment? Will Sullivan grant that like with Moyes. If so, why employ Steidten other than simply making him recruitment head and advisor not decision maker? We dont know the truth but its not looking like the young, innovative coach who will use youth whenever possible? On the upside, he’s available, can start early to give time needed for a huge rebuild and pre season. If appointed, I would, like others, give him time and hope to be wrong but his record elsewhere is not convincing. Doesnt stay anywhere long. Spanush journeyman?"

"Faintly encouraged by those who appear to know more about Lop that he wouldn’t be a terrible appointment. If he is prepared to work with the youngsters then that’s a big tick as far as I am concerned. What we need is a stable environment in which our best U21s are integrated into the squad alongside our established core of first team players plus another handful of Steidten signings. I don’t care if it takes a 1-3 years to see them develop, I just want to see a steady progression in the right direction rather than the shit show that has been David Moyes."

Lop apparently still lives in Wolverhampton so there's no relocation funds to worry about would suit Sullivan down to the ground. Very much doubt it's a Steidten pick pretty underwhelming all round

"Ref Amorin, it's not just the comp, he also allegedly wants circa 8 mil a year salary. So Amorin for 3 years is approx 32 mil, Fonseca/Lop total around 15 mil. So the difference is what we paid for Cornet, but Sullivan won't see it that way."

"Miike - I think most would prefer Amorin, but would he prefer us? But yeah agree about the compensation, it's crazy how much we've wasted on players and then not to spend money on someone who's job it is to improve the assets."

"Amorim would be perfect. he plays a very similar style/formation to our younger age teams. what makes no sense is they're quite prepared to burn 6-7m on that useless cսnt phillips, but won't pay compensation for one of the best young managers in europe. the main reason the spaniard is favourite is it will cost them nothing to hire him other than the contract, when have they done anything different"

"Wolves were bottom Christmas day, they were only the fourth team to survive that in the PL era.. Surely that was a needs must situation. Real form is poor but wasn't it just after Ronaldo left? It would be without doubt an underwhelming appointment, but I don't think it would mean relegation as someone has claimed .. He's spent his whole club career at the top of the league and the one relegation battle he was in was very successful."

"https://www.coachesvoice.com/cv/julen-lopetegui-sevilla-real-madrid-spain/ This is worth a read. He'd certainly not be an exciting, edgy appointment like Amorim, but neither is he a carbon copy of Moyes either. I'd favour him over Hansi Flick, and at the coaching level from a first team perspective he's probably on par with Fonseca all be it slightly different attributes and having had bigger jobs. Would take him over Moyes in a heartbeat though."

"Of course I'm far from an expert on Lopetegui and can only base my opinion on what I've seen and read. I didn't like the fella at Wolves - just didn't like the cut of his jib - a view that was shared by many Wolves fans, seemingly along with fans of every other club he's managed. I'm not sure how the fact he's been sacked from every club he's managed, bar Wolves, translates into anything other than a dubious CV and as far as putting his faith in youth is concerned, from what I've read that couldn't be farther from the truth. It probably stems from his time as the U19-U21 coach in Spain where he had generational talent at his disposal. But we all know Sullivan will revel in appointing an ex-Spain and Real Madrid manager and the fact that he's out of work makes this even more likely. Would I prefer him to Moyes? Well, yes. Do I want him? Absolutely not. Anyone who wins just 6 out of 14 games with a Madrid team packed with superstars and had fans of the mighty Wolves cheering his departure wouldn't be my first choice"

"I was thinking Lopetegui was too old, then I realised he's only 5 months older than me. He also gets a good rap from Dawson. So whilst he's not the kind of manager I was hoping for, I'd be happy enough. I was really hoping Howe or Pochettino would become available."

"I wouldn't say I'm an expert on Lop, or indeed many coaches, as some on here appear to be, but I'm not against the appointment if it happened. Yes, I'd prefer a younger coach, but he does seem a 'young' 57 year old, maybe it's the dyed hair, but he's trim and looks full of energy. Clearly a smart bloke who most likely knows the (modern) game inside and out, will likely work 24x7 and seems hungry to succeed with a point to prove, where with Moyes you sometimes wonder if he even likes football, he seems to know fuck all about fuck all listening to his pressers."

"Craig Dawson says Lopetegui is a tactical genius so that’s good enough for me chaps! Mr Moyes is certainly not one of those so the sooner the jock leaves the building the better. I’ve been listening to Martin Kellner on Talksport overnight and discovered he is a West Ham fan born in Yorkshire. His daughter Martha is a Sky reporter in the USA and she is absolutely superb. Every time something bad happens over there, she is on the spot within a few hours!"

"If it does end up being Lopetegui, I reckon many fans who ain't sure about him now will eventually be pleasantly surprised. He's certainly not a boring manager that plays mind numbing Football. Far from it in fact. He wouldn't be my 1st choice but I'm definitely for Lopetegui over Moyes. Give him time, supported in the market and he will do well for us, both style wise and results wise in the League. He clearly works well with youngsters too and knows how to develop them with his time as the U19 and U21 winning Teams he managed. If we do have gems knocking about in our Academy, then he wouldn't be afraid to play and coach them."

"Ffs... as I'm sure you well know I mentioned O'Neil purely because his record with a clearly inferior Wolves squad was better than Lopetegui's Until or unless he manages Real Madrid or Sevilla or the Spanish national team the direct comparisons will have to end there I'm afraid. I get it, you're keen on him"

So then multiple top 4 finishes and a European trophy put Lopetegui miles ahead of Gary O’Neil. Not to mention going a couple of years unbeaten as Spain manager.

"Nah. I'd be more inclined to look at the multiple trophy wins versus the one Europa League rather than the marginal 1% difference over 35 or so fewer games, but each to their own"

Lopetegui has a better win % at Seville than Emery. Does that make him the better manager?
