Ben Johnson
Anyone know the latest with this lad's contract? I think he has been a bit of a revelation since he's been given more freedom on the pitch. His confidence is improving and I hope he stays.
Re: Johnson
20 odd appearances in his breakthrough season in 2020-21 and something like 25 with cup ties in 2021-22 including a goal away at Villa the like of which that Coufal could only dream of scoring. Gone backwards ever since so for what ever reason the trajectory is all wrong. Not sure why anyone would imagine he'll improve materially

Re: Johnson
Underrated extremely versatile Premier League Footballer. Should have been offered a decent more realistic contract long ago. One for the English quota too of course and uet another proud product of our famed Academy. Deserved Cup winner too.100% keep.

Re: Johnson
That Gonzi nkoke thinks keeping him is a no brainer. 50k.pw about average squad player. Maybe he take 40 or 45? I think leep too. Not many youfs make it to 1st 11. 1 he's good enough for our squad 2 He's still.improving (in spite of 2 yra on the bench) 3 he's a good example to other youth players and prospective young players about a route to the 1st team
Re: Johnson
"Huffers 4:23 Mon Apr 8 That’s fair enough for Saturday, but lets not pretend he’s normally decent and things like that aren’t common place in his game. He is absolutely average at best. I know he’s a local lad and from the academy and all that but he is lower end Premier League/Championship level."

"How is this a 'Moyes failure'? Given the form of Coufal, where would you have played him?"

Re: Johnson
Last season he played on the right in a back 3 and i thought he looked really good there and might push on. A couple of games later as a right back he stood rooted to the spot as a player strolled in behind him and put the ball in the net. Inconsistency seems to be an issue which is hard to work on if your sat on the bench.

"If we keep Moyes, then it'll be a huge mistake to get rid of him. I wouldn't be looking at offloading any player who's part of our 14 man squad."

Re: Johnson
"Whether you think he is a squad player or not, letting an experienced young English player brought through the ranks leave on a free is a balls up of note."
Re: Johnson
Obviously depends on who the club are looking to bring in but you would hope that we can do a deal that everyone is happy with as he is a good versatile squad member able to play either full back or wide midfield.

Re: Johnson
"Blimey, he didn't put another foot wrong in 55 minutes on Saturday and was definitely a contributing factor in winning the game. I imagine every professional footballer has scuffed a volley like that at some point. It was just as bad as Paqueta teeing Antonio up for a volley instead of playing a simple pass for the last kick of the game on Tuesday."

Re: Johnson
"He is really not very good. His absolutely pathetic attempted volley clearance is what lead to the would-be equaliser on Saturday, but is overlooked because of other conversations around it. He’s done a job when brought on in positions other than his natural one, but nothing more. Seems a nice lad, but we should be shooting much higer than worrying about if he might sign a new deal or not."

Re: Johnson
Decent squad player given his versatility but doesnt seem likely to nail down a permanent spot Presumably the contract offer reflects that
