Saturday football
"The same old three are jostling for position at the top of the Premier League, as they have for most of the last few months. The smallest slip hands the initiative to the others: see Liverpool. On paper, Man City have the weekend’s easiest assignment, followed by Liverpool and then Arsenal. At the bottom Sheff Utd are as good as gone and will start next season with a points’ deduction. It never rains, but it pours. Burnley are nearly as good as gone. That leaves Luton, Forest and Everton, separated by two measly points, battling to avoid the third relegation spot. Luton have picked the day’s short straw while Forest may hope VAR comes to their aid against the unfortunate Wolves. As for us, we could do with three points [i] to alleviate to some extent the misery of another piss-poor performance and late capitulation against Leverkusen; and [ii] to keep us in reasonable touch with the others in the hunting for a sixth placed finish. Come on, you Cherries. The Championship continues to surprise and excite, with relegation-threatened Plymouth issuing an unexpected walloping to leaders Leicester last night. The division mirrors the Premier League insofar as a single point separates the top three. Leeds take on Blackburn and Ipswich host Boro in the day’s most prominent games. At the bottom eight sides, including Millwall who take on Cardiff this afternoon, are competing to finish above the dotted line. Time for a Millwall Relegation thread? *SATURDAY* NEWCASTLE UNITED vs TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR (1230) BRENTFORD vs SHEFFIELD UNITED (1500) BURNLEY vs BRIGHTON & HOVE ALBION (1500) MANCHESTER CITY vs LUTON TOWN (1500) NOTTINGHAM FOREST vs WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS (1500) BOURNEMOUTH vs MANCHESTER UNITED (1730) *SUNDAY* LIVERPOOL vs CRYSTAL PALACE (1400) WEST HAM UNITED vs FULHAM (1400) ARSENAL vs ASTON VILLA (1630) *MONDAY* CHELSEA vs EVERTON (2000)"
Re: Saturday football
Just seen the two penalty incidents. Fuck me. How the first can be given as handball is beyond me. The second one should definitely have been a penalty and VAR overturns it. There is definitely an agenda.

Re: Saturday football
"That referee was an absolute fucking disgrace, he didn't even want to give the penalty initially, but knew he absolutely had to give it, and would've been over the moon when VAR incorrectly ruled it out. Shocking stuff."
Re: Saturday football
"The FA rulebook says: ""If a defender starts holding an attacker outside the penalty area and continues holding inside the penalty area, the referee must award a penalty kick."" Except if it’s Man Utd at Bournemouth."

Re: Saturday football
Fucking hell. Even at the end the ref was doing everything he could to help them out. Playing way over the time taken while they were attacking and blowing up as soon as they lost the ball.

Re: Saturday football
Naturally a full VAR check needed for Bournemouth’s pen. Should it be a red card for the Man Utd defender? Obviously they didn’t check for that.

Re: Saturday football
This ref has been fucking abysmal. Really helped out Man U at every turn although finally Bournemouth get the rub of the green. I bet VAR come to the rescue and say it was outside.

Re: Saturday football
Looked a harsh pen Ball deflected at speed off another defender & looked high on the arm. Not sure there was much movement of the arm towards the ball like the Kilman one last week A player like Solanke could lead our line .... if we shifted 30yds up the pitch so that Bowen & Kudus were close to him
Re: Saturday football
"If anyone is watching that decision and doesn’t think there is a clear agenda for certain clubs, I don’t know what will make it sink in. That style of “handball” nearly always needs VAR. The refs don’t tend to give them and rely on VAR*. VAR would never in a million years given that but can’t decide that its a clear and obvious error. *unless it’s Man Utd losing to Bournemouth, in which case the ref couldn’t wait to give it. Scandalous decision."

Re: Saturday football
"Big six penalty if ever I’ve seen one. All the times VAR gets involved to rule goals out for the tiniest of infractions, yet on this occasion they decide it doesn’t need them to do a proper check. This league is bent."
Re: Saturday football
"Fuckin disgusting pen given against Bournemouth there. Especially when you take into account some of the disgusting non decisions we've had lately. Big club bias today for sure, never a pen in a million years."
