Real shame him and Ashton didn't get to play together.

"Pickle -I meant another description of Icon ""a person or thing widely admired especially for having great influence or significance in a particular sphere."" The sphere being the aforementioned season! ;-)"

Re: Tevez 'satisfactory' in hospital after chest pains
"You can call Tevez an icon if you like. However, icons are holy paintings prominent in orthodox Christian traditions so I wouldn’t describe him as either a painting or holy."
Re: Tevez 'satisfactory' in hospital after chest pains
"I'd personally call him an Icon rather than a Legend. Legends to me are the likes of Hurst, Moore, Brooking and Bonds. Tevez in the icon category as a fantastic player who helped us fantastically in the Great Escape. As good as he was I still don't think the likes of Zamora and Rob Green get enough credit for that escape though."

"Tevez didn't choose us, he was told to play for us so all this bollox about he left his emotion with us then chased the money is just that, utter bollox."

Re: Tevez 'satisfactory' in hospital after chest pains
"I never said he was a legend. He was one of those rare players that comes along now and then who can excite a crowd just by being in possession of the ball, because summat brilliant, unexpected or magical could happen. George Best, Gascoigne, Joe Cole (first time around), Ronaldinho. They'd have folk on the edge of their seats. Tevez was in that category. And apart from that, his tenacity and 100% effort in every game was fucking brilliant to watch. Yes, he was only here a short time but he gave his all in a team that was far too shit for him to be playing in. He was GREAT."
Re: Tevez 'satisfactory' in hospital after chest pains
"OTB has it right. Not many are saying he is one of the best to play for us, but after being initially cast aside by the two managers whether that be club politics, or because they didn’t think he was Premier League ready, and in a season where the chips were very much down, it would have been easy for him to down tools. Instead he grafted fucking hard, and gave us not only one a memorable end to the season, but also combining with Zamora, Benayoun and a young Noble for some excellent football. Probably not a popular view, but as good, if not that better than Rooney. Comparable styles, comparable stats. People say he didn’t connect with supporters of clubs in Europe. I think the opposite is true. Certainly with us, Man City and Juventus he did. His style of play and commitment makes it difficult for fans not to take to him in my view."
Re: Tevez 'satisfactory' in hospital after chest pains
There is always THAT goal against ManU which will always be remembered for very good reasons. On the face of it 7 goals is not a great return but the mere fact that we landed two bona fide stars was startling even though it wasn't for long and they were never really ours. Curbishley repeatedly picking Hayden Mullins over Mascerano remains a mystery but he must have had his reasons. Tevez helped keep us up and then buggered off at the first opportunity. If anything Lucas Neil was the most important buy that season as he influenced the entire squad.

Re: Tevez 'satisfactory' in hospital after chest pains
"I called Tevez a legend and clinging on his impact at the club in the short time he was here, I’m sticking to my position."
Re: Tevez 'satisfactory' in hospital after chest pains
"I think Len's dignified silence is impressive. He was very clear and precise in his comments and certainly never used the word ""legend"". Some people are weird I also enjoyed watching him immensely, likewise Sir Trev, Devo, DiCanio and Payet. Don't start me on Curbishley though... although I suspect Moyes would be the same if 2 of Argentina's world cup had rocked up a couple of summers ago"

"I'm not sure you follow football at all. He used us as a stepping stone to get a european team. We basically took him on loan from his agents and they gave us a player to put in the shop window. Honestly Pickle, football isn't for you."

I especially love the way he obviously played for us for the satisfaction and went to Man U. for the money. Didn’t really follow his exploits there but I get the distinct impression he left the passion with us.

"Totally agree, OTB. Fantastic player for us."
Re: Tevez 'satisfactory' in hospital after chest pains
"Hammer and Pickle 12:12 Thu Apr 25 Re: THE STRUMMING OF HARRY Of course he’s a legend especially as it rankles with so many that he gave us that magic season magic season? we got humped that season by Reading 6-0, Bolton 4-0, Charlton 4-0, Sheff Utd 3-0. We got beat at home by fucking Watford. Awful season that ended with an amazing run of form. A cult hero maybe, but in no way is he a legend. If you find yourself on the same side of a football debate with H&P then you know you're in the wrong. fucking legend FFS."

Re: Tevez 'satisfactory' in hospital after chest pains
"I'm 100% with Len. He's not saying 'best' or 'biggest contribution', he said 'favourite'. For me, because of his standard and because of the time he played for us, he is easily one of my favourite ever players. He was/is clearly and 'jobbing' footballer unless it's Boca - but that's ok. I honestly thnk he clicked with us more than the other teams he played for in Europe. Probably easier for that to happen in our situation than one of the big boys - seige mentality, trying to prove something and all that. In footballing terms he should have been at one of the Spanish big boys - but we had him, and he was brilliant. He could have given up when things weren't working, but he didn't - he tried harder and harder and was fucking brilliant once it clicked (and before, just without the goals). There have been few players I've enjoyed more in my 44 years of life. Loved him."
