"The brother-in-law and his missus have not long returned from a week over there- absolutely loved it Only downside was that they stayed in the Legoland hotel as they had a couple of youngsters with them. Said they're defo going back next year, but for two weeks as seven days isn't enough, which surprised me as always thought of Dubai as a 3-4 day stopover sort of destination. Oh, and 200 Rothmans for £14 isn't to be sneezed (or indeed wheezed) at."

"Paul Hopefully your room isn't above the aquarium as that will be all you smell mate. Go to the Water Park at Abu Dhabi on Yas Island as the one at the hotel is always rammed. If you want to know where a cheap underground off licence is, let me know and I'll message you."

I'm quite happy people have a false narrative of it.

"Dubai is a nice break, no drinking culture, no lads on tour, loads to see and do, it's safe, is nothing like a concrete jungle, people are friendly, no looky looky men trying to sell you shit fakes, I take my daughter at easter as weather is great and don't need to worry about dickheads everywhere, always drive down to Abu Dhabi as well."

"Funny ref the arrogant comments, as my overriding memory of Dubai on the one time I went there (high prices aside) was how friendly the locals were. Thought it was OK, it's exactly want you think it will be like, plenty of pretentious expats around too, enjoying their brunches. If you're there while a game is on, and your missus will allow you, look up the Dubai Hammers, there's a fair crowd meet up in a pub within one of the hotels for all our games."

I just don't get the appeal of Dubai. A concrete jungle by the sea run by a despotic regime. Up there with Las Vegas in places that I have no wish to be..

"Depends what you want. Personally I'd fly the extra 45 minutes and go to Oman; Muscat is nice with some decent international hotels/private resorts. The malls are less ""glitzy"" than those in Dubai. It has the obligatory Grand Mosque and the Opera House puts on decent enough international shows - and not just opera/classical stuff either. Salalah is breathtakingly beautiful and the rains at that time of year cool the area somewhat, but be aware that many of the chain hotels, and all of the family run ones in that part of the country are dry. End of the low season is September there, so not so expensive. Oman also has a stunning ""Mini Grand Canyon"" complete with overlooking 5 star hotel, but even in the low season it's fairly pricy."

"Bab Al Shams for dinner/entertainment is a good experience in the desert. 5 palms is a good spot for day drinking/going out if that's what youre after. A lot of birds there, although half of them are def hookers. Barasti beach bar is a decent spot to watch footy or live music and have beers. If you are going over the euros they will most likely have it on."
